as stated in previous thread this site is amazing and full of info. just trying to find out more about the car. it s a 69 the previous ower bought the car in 71 and owned up until 5 years ago when i got it. unfortunaly he striped it down and hacked up alot of it for drag racing. it was orginally a 396, i have 1 of the orginal crome valve cover (tonawanda sticker) the clutch pedal is still in the car and the brake pedal says power brakes(not sure if this means anything) but it has drums, iv heard drums are better for drag racing becasue they have less resistance. and its soposed to have the orignal 12 bolt in it. any ways the motor & trans are gone, it has a sb w/t400. but heres a pic of the build sheet(whats left of it), i took it off the bench seat that came out of the car. VIN # 114279w334423. thanks brian

The build sheet has to match the VIN of the car unless you have all of the documenting sheet the back seat could have come out of another wrecked car (hence the requirement of the the matching VIN). Why did you buy the car? To continue to race it, or restore it?
Racers are notorious scroungers putting wrecked pieces of cars they obtain together without titles or other documents because it cuts cost which to race they do not need them.
I had a 1970 Camaro that had a 1974 front end and bucket seats out of a Chrysler Chalenger SE (Hemi no less). The original interior I gave to a freind who put it in a used car he was selling. So my build sheets showing a 396 SS Camaro went into a 6 cylinder car that wound up with a SBC for power. These things happen over time. Back then no one cared about numbers matching anything; only on the size of your current motor and how low you could drive down your ET slips.

the plan was orginally to restore it, but i wanted to race it a few times just to see what it was like to dive something fast(11.7s) then i decided i enjoyed racing it and its still a race a car. i can restore it when i get it older, im only 26, just bought a 505 bb for it!! just trying to learn more about the car and how it was orginally.should the numbers on the body tag match the vin?

Build sheet will not match VIN....it will match the body sequence number on the cowl tag. Looks like this sheet says L78 (396/375hp) M20 (manual trans...floor shifter...bench seat N10 (dual exhaust)....the interior trim code should also match the cowl tag as well as the build date....check those numbers and you will know the answer...

PS....the M20 designation does not mean the car came with an M20....rather, it indicates that a hole must be cut in floor for the shifter....could have come with an M21 or M22....
I am trying to determine if i have a ss
