I'm just curious what the going rates are for painting especially for any of you guys that do it on the side or as a hobby. I've got 2 guys that want their cars done now that the nova is done. I figure I can paint a couple cars to offset the cost of building the 66 project.

Jim,
in Md, the going rate for a BC/CC is $2700 to 3200. That is including all the cut in work, wet sanding and buffing the paint out. On my car, I'm painting ext and int metal the same color.

here in Indy a good base coat/clear coat runs close to 4-5,000. i had a friend who just got his chevelle painted by Maaco and they charged him 3,000. they had the car for 4 months when they told him it would only take 6 weeks.

I used to do paint jobs by a fixed price but every time the owner would add stuff and expect it to be included so I am going to stay away from fixed priced jobs from now on. I'm looking more towards a per hour rate. I've got a guy local thats interested in getting his 64 vette done so I need to get a hourly rate set so he gets a fair price and I don't do it for peanuts.

Is that with a roller or brush? :D Thats definatly cheap, I wouldn't expect to much for that much money.

Belive me that is what i thought at first too... I have two prices now the second one is only a hundred dollars more...one guy does it for a living and the other in spare time. Both with many good references. And i've seen the guy who does in spare time, he did well on a hard job with a mustang. He only painted the front 2 panels and the hood and blended it perfectly with the rest of the car, and charged the kid 500 dollars. I think its legitimate. They are really the only 2 that do this work around here. I have a challenging rust area on the wheel well of my grand prix... i may have them do that first to see what happens. I HOPE its quality with as many references as I have..if I go through with it ill have before and after pics..
