Hey I have question regarding the cowl tag number and the vin number on the door jamb of a 67 nova. I looked at one this weekend that had a 118 number on the cowl tag but the door jamb number started with 117. I thought they would be the same. My brothers 67 nova has 116 on both tags which we new meant a plain nova but why did this other car have the two different numbers. I think I would have bought it but I dont like little issues like this. So did I look at somethin that someone had doctored up as an ss or is it real?

Welcome to Team Nova

most cowl tags are generic (lack of a better word) but the VIN is the actual item... check my siggy link (JollyRodder) http://www.jollyrodder.com/ then scroll, right side, towards top and click on NovaResource... there it will explain all about VIN & Cowl tag decoding ;) http://www.novaresource.org/vin.htm

hope i helped ;)

It is real my friend!! Allot of them have 118 on them!! Even ones with 6 cylinders in them.

So even though the body tag has 118 on it (which meant ss v8) it was common to have the 117 vin (which meant ss l6) which is what the car had. Even more interesting to me was that it had all the ss stuff that i thought is should have but it had a 3 on the tree. No console. I am no nova exxpert but i had never seen a ss nova without the console. so if that was a possible option that way I might really start kicking myself for not buying it! Ouch

might be ;)

recheck the NovaResource link, left side, upper grey area, move your cursor area over it and click on "production numbers" might show qty of cars made with manual trans etc ;)
