I'm considering a 1968 Nova L34 396 auto car for purchase, but the cowl tags says 1969, build date is Sept. 1st week. Ok? questions?

The build sheet or punch tag say's L34, and shows a bunch of other trim items, but does not state trans or rear-end? Why?

Other sites states car with L34 are SS, true?
To get 396 you had to get SS pkg. ???

Why does tag not state Z26 or SS or ?

Build sheet will not indicate transmission or rear....on a manual shift car they would list M20...regardless of trans..that told the assembly line guy to cut a hole in the proper location...console would also be indicated if that was an option....no trans listed usually indicates column shift car....the VIN tells the story on the year...should read 114278Wxxxxxx.....

11427 indicates Nova 2 dr coupe... 8 is the model year W is for Willow Run plant....xxxxxx is the last 6 of the VIN

so what is your VIN and cowl tag info..???

Cowl tag says ST 69 11427 WRNXXXXXX which matches the build sheet.

well if you have some original paper work that is normally the best way to determine it. Without paperwork you can take an educated guess. What year nova do you have? The following link has info on what to look for in the various years to help you take an educated guess.

if its a 68 it says chevyII on the grille, plus it will have an ignition switch on the dash..
