View Full Version : Unknown Plugs
higleyml Feb 23rd, 08, 07:11 PM I have a little problem I am hoping you all can help me with. I have a 69 Nova but I purchased a 71 wiring harness off e-bay when I had the car apart (it was in great shape and the price was excellent). I pulled the 71 harness diagram from Johnnys album and have wired the whole car with it (with great success)...however, I have four plugs I cant identify. I will give you a picture and tell you what the diagram says. I have a feeling they might be some type of smog items but I just want to make sure before I remove them.

This plug on the diagram is marked "CEC REV RLY"...

This plug is marked "CEC SOLENOID"...

This plug is marked "TIME DELAY RELAY"...

This plug isnt marked on the diagram...it isnt the temp sender, that is the one in the background...I am thinking it might be for the elec choke??
All of these wires are in the group that run to the passenger side of the car...If you know what any of these things are listed above please clue me in! Thanks in advance!!
Big Dave Feb 23rd, 08, 07:39 PM I think the single green wire is the A/C compressor solenoid activation wire. Not a clue as to the others.

Thanks Dave. That would explain why it isnt on my diagram...

The Combination Emission Control System (C.E.C.) solenoid valve regulates distributor vacuum as a function of transmission gear position.
Philip Feb 23rd, 08, 08:22 PM Or in simpler terms, it blocked the vacuum signal to the distributor until the transmission was in high gear and the coolant temp was above 160* (may be wrong on the temp).
SHIFTY4 Feb 23rd, 08, 09:31 PM Hey Mike,
i'm presently setting up my website and it's more work than i thought... i've removed my wiring schematic and the other albums from my webshots account to transfer to my website, so most/all are off line right now... if anyone over "there" has been looking for them (wiring or whatever) they'll be back up soon.
just ta let ya know i've not deleted them ta be mean... Rotten yes, but never mean ;)
Johnny (i'll try ta get 'em back up asap) ;)
1quik69 Feb 24th, 08, 12:58 AM Mike, see if these help you any. These are straight out of the 1971 Chassis Manual.
higleyml Feb 24th, 08, 06:28 AM No problem for me Johnny I printed the ones I need a long time ago...have them sitting next to me as we speak. Pat yes those were helpful as well...confirmed Big Daves A/C wire.

Ok so it is somewhat along my line of thought. Now does the car have to have these to operate? Or can I remove them from the process? By remove I mean I'm going to pull them back free from the harness roll them up and stuff them neatly somewhere, I do not plan on cutting them free.

Mike that will work fine; they are not needed nor is there anywhere to attach them.
higleyml Feb 24th, 08, 07:53 AM Thanks Philip and everyone else as well for your info!
higleyml Feb 24th, 08, 11:30 AM Wow it seems like I just took a mile of wire out of the harness. I have one more question...I need a "constant 12v" wire for my elec choke...would that temp sender wire be considered that? Or are they talking a direct connection to the battery?
Philip Feb 24th, 08, 11:41 AM The choke wire needs to be hot with the key on only or your battery will die overnight. If the green wire is long enough and has the proper connector it can be used. You will need to find the other end and plug into an ignition source.
higleyml Feb 24th, 08, 01:41 PM Ok thanks Philip!
1quik69 Feb 24th, 08, 03:57 PM I tied my electric choke wire into the ignition post of the fuse box.

I just did the same thing Pat...thanks
