View Full Version : Whats year Nova's parts fit what years ????
dgas Jan 22nd, 08, 01:57 PM 68-74 specifically. I need a fair amount of dash parts for my 72. A buddy said to take anything off of a 68 he has out at his farm including a nice rear bumper if it fits. I know the 68 dash is different, but are the glove box, ash tray, dash plastic, Arm rests, Heater + heater controls, wiper motor and transmissions? I cannot put the two cars together to match them, neither run and are about 10 mi's apart, besides the fact that I have none of the 72 parts to match to anyway.
Gloryhound Jan 22nd, 08, 02:48 PM Glove box door, heater box (but not controls), wiper motor, wiper parts, cowl panel, dash pad, and that is about it. 68 is an odd ball year. Parts from 69-74 were all the same for the dash.
dgas Jan 22nd, 08, 04:53 PM That will help Thanks
Big Dave Jan 22nd, 08, 06:27 PM Also bumpers are different if I am not mistaken. 1974 is a big bumper car (5 mph impact resistant, insisted upon by the insurance companies), or there abouts from memory.

dgas Jan 22nd, 08, 06:37 PM But 68 bumpers should work OK for a 72 right? I really want that F'glass back one gone. front i can live with but too many gawkers around here + a rear ender is a definate possibility.
Big Dave Jan 22nd, 08, 06:39 PM yup 68 should fit a 72. For some reason (senior moment) I thought you had a 74.
dgas Jan 22nd, 08, 06:41 PM nope 72 , but its OK, we ALL have that going on at OUR age. heh heh
dgas Jan 22nd, 08, 06:52 PM Woops, stock heater won't go back in there , that area was completely reworked when they did the cage and forward side tubes. have to figure something else out.I do not NEED a heater, but defrost is a good idea w all the moisture around here in cool summer mornings during the warm month's.
NIGHTSHADE Jan 26th, 08, 12:53 PM Hey neighbor, I think I have an ashtray and glove box door from a 74 (black) they should be sitting on a shelf in my shop with a few more misc. items. You still got my number?
dgas Jan 26th, 08, 05:13 PM Yes I do, not sure a 74 will fit a 72 will it? I just got back from that guys house.
dgas Jan 26th, 08, 06:03 PM which 68 -72 models had
1. blacked out grille and HL bezels ?
2. Ffender fake side grilles- I suspect these were either an Acc. or certain model specific.
Found out on another site :hurray:

Oh yeah that just reminded me of the cars we talked about up north.
Gloryhound Jan 27th, 08, 10:16 AM The complete dash assembly from a 74 will fit in a 72. Minor differences will exist such as number tint on speedo, texture of dash bezel, style of knobs.... , but it would take a serious Nova person or a comparison side by side of origional for someone to really notice thise little changes and if your building a hot rod and not a numbers car who cares! On a side note you can even bolt in the complete dash from a 69 Camaro into the Nova or vise versa. The steel stamping of the dash is the same for all 69-74 Novas and the 69 Camaro (but the 69 Firebird is different).
SalFra Feb 1st, 08, 03:14 PM Hello all. I havent been here in quite a while but here are my two cents.
You also asked about the arm rests.
If memory serves me correctly the arm rests on the 73 and 74 Nova are a one piece style molded into the door panel. If you want to put these into your 72 you will have to make some modifications on the door panels to accomodate the window crank, the door handle and the vent windows since the 73 and 74 did not come with. The rear arm rests are also molded into the panel plus the door jam windlace is also part of the panel and will not work on the 68-72 with out a lot of work to make them look right. As for the dash you will also have to see if you have A/C there is a vent right in the middle of the dash if no A/C no cut out. So if you dont have ac you will be stuck with a useles hole in your dash and if you have A/C and get a dash with out the vent you could damage the dash when using the heater because of hot air hitting it with no where to go.
Hope this helps.
