Remove the nuts and it comes right off http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p165/tsimpson1974/IM000876.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p165/tsimpson1974/IM000877.jpg SHIFTY4 Jan 18th, 08, 07:31 PM just so i know for future reference... are all the pad's speed nuts accessable from under the dash or is there other work required to gain access to them ??? it looks & sounds like the dash pad comes off very easy... i'd just like to confirm, thanks ;) 1quik69 Jan 19th, 08, 04:01 AM Shifty, on the 3rd gens most of the speed nuts are pretty easy to reach. There are a couple that are a bear but not bad. Getting the spring clips that slide into the dash are sometimes a pain. All of the nuts are behind the dash. In my case there is a big nut behind the steering wheel but that's another story. Gloryhound Jan 19th, 08, 07:18 AM It really helps if the glovebox insert is out. Monk Jan 19th, 08, 11:48 AM It really helps if the glovebox insert is out. I remember when I did mine.......glovebox for sure comes out. If I had to do all over again......I'd take the time and take the front seat out. It's not that big a deal and a lot easier on the body. At one time I thought I was going to have to have the jaws of life remove me.....:D To this day I still don't know how I got my body in all those positions. SHIFTY4 Jan 19th, 08, 12:32 PM thanks guys for the extra info... i'll probably never need it as i'm a 1st Genner SEDAN man but i'm sure the info helped the 3rd Genner guys ;) yuk yuk yuk ;) David_H Jan 19th, 08, 12:48 PM FYI on a 2GEN glove box insert out and I havn't tried it with it in place but with the speedo cluster out its easy:D I don't think you could get to the screws with the speedo in:beers: Gloryhound Jan 19th, 08, 02:30 PM FYI on a 2GEN glove box insert out and I havn't tried it with it in place but with the speedo cluster out its easy:D I don't think you could get to the screws with the speedo in:beers: You can, but it takes a little open ended wrench, a lot of patience, a couple bandages for scraped knuckles, a couple discriptive adjectives, 10 hours, 12 pack of beer, 6 pack of coke, and a 5 year old kid with small enough hands. (Note: 12 pack of beer is for you and 6 pack of coke is for the kid.) The worse thing is when you realize you will never get it back in without taking all that stuff out anyway!:pout: ArenaSwe Feb 7th, 08, 06:21 PM I just did this yesterday as I am replacing the dash pad with a fresh one from Classic Industries. Glovebox out, Speedo cluster almost out, scraped knuckles yeah :-( One things I was wondering is where I can find replacement for my dashboard housing, the molded plastic which carries the speedo cluster, wiper switch etc. I know there are custom versions like covan and similar stuff, but I would rather have a stock original. Does anyone know it there are replacements to be find or do I have to look on eBay etc for a nice used one? Or do you have any other suggestions. As a side note, on the glass on the speedo cluster there is like a really faded marking stating something about emissions control kat-kit and please don't speed over 60 mpg for sustained amount of time, and it's dated to 1973. Doesn't this seem really strange? Don't know the exact history of the interior but anyways? What speedo cluster glass from 1973 would fit a 1969 nova? Best Regards, Magnus Mangus, there are no factory style reproductions being made at this time. You might check e-bay for one. They pop up pretty regular there or check the wrecking yards in your area. 1quik69 Feb 8th, 08, 03:58 PM Mangus, there are no factory style reproductions being made at this time. The whole speedo assy is interchangeable. ArenaSwe Feb 11th, 08, 05:44 AM I have managed to repair the dash bezel, and now it also has it's old lustre back. Hopefully it will hold together. Also went to classic industries and got a new speedo lens, and also for the heater box. Just need to touch up on the chrome outlining on the dash bezel. I was thinking of getting a good silver marked pen and see if that would do the trick. Any suggestions? /M |
