Hey Nick Welcome to Team Nova ;)

i'm not sure how to remove the radio faceplate on the '75 but the radio itself will have a factory plug... i believe when you buy your new stereo they'd be able to offer you a pigtail jumper plug that will permit the radio to mount to your factory harness... the original speaker wires, power wires etc... the speakers themselves can be removed/replaced and upgraded if that's also what's planned...

if a booster or amp or whatever is to be used then of course that complicates the issue... but you were asking just about radio connection, yes ???

i have all the wiring schematics saved in an album viewable by clicking the link in my signature area... locate the album, click on your schematic and enlarge that to full size... right-click-save to your files ;)

anyways, i hope i helped ya in some small way... i wish ya the best ;)

For a mono radio:
In your radio plug there should be several wires.
all black wires are ground, there may be more than one as the front speaker has a ground wire from the harness.
yellow is 12v power
gray is for the dial light and is powered thru the dash lamp circuit. This is a good place to splice in for add on gauge lights.
Light green is front speaker
dark blue would be rear speaker + and the ground goes to the body

For a factory stereo radio:
all black wires are ground
yellow is 12v power
gray is for the dial light and is powered thru the dash lamp circuit.
purple and tan wires are the + side of the front speakers
black with a double white stripe are the front speaker grounds
brown and dark blue are the + side of the rear speakers
rear speaker grounds go to the body

the acc wire on the radio can be hooked to the acc position of your fuse panel...

The yellow wire is hot in key on and acc positions.

On your new radio the red will hook to the yellow in the harness, then your radio will go on/off with the key. The yellow on the radio needs to go to a constant 12v source to save the presets and clock memory. See where the blue plug is installed in my fuse panel? That is a hot spade and you can plug your yellow wire in there.

If it looks just like mine there is nothing being powered, it is a just a condenser plugged into the circuit. You can hook the yellow wire into the open spade connector and it will be fine.

Buy stranded copper wire the same size as the yellow one. Cut a little piece off and take it with you to compare. The gray wire is for the light in the stock radio dial. It dims with the panel lights. Pick up some butt connectors and both male and female spade terminals and a crimping plier to attach the ends to the wires. This tool will be extremely handy in the future as well as for this project. If you go to Radio Shack and tell them what you are doing they will get you the right stuff.
