I Was Wondering When Were The Louvers In The Side Of The Fenders First Used? I Have Seen Them On 1969-70 's And I Am Not Sure To What Year Is Correct. I Have A 1970 That Is Supposed To Have Original Fenders And They Are There I Am Just Curious Are They Correct. Thanks For The Help.jeff

69 and 70 were the only years that had them. I believe the SS models had bright trim around the louvers.

Jeff the louvers are a pot metal piece added to the SS trim package. You got two fake air intakes on the hood (pot metal add ons) the pot metal fender louvers, a blacked out grill and a blacked out SS rear trunk trim similar to the piece used on the custom. The SS package also bought you heavy duty radiator, brakes shocks, sway bars, stiffer springs (multi-leafs) and a 3/8th inch gas line instead of the stock 5/16th. Other trim pieces included the SS badges (badges!; we don't got’s to show you no steek'en badges) outside and in.

Big Dave,
The 69 Nova I'm restoring has the rear traction bars. Are they original to the car or did the SS models come with multileaf shock plates?

Came with multi leaf rear springs on the SS. Traction bars can exist as an aftermarket part on either the mono leaf or multi-leaf system. In 1969 the most commonly encountered bar was a Lakewood competition J-bar just like "Grumpy" had (standard traction bar with angle iron welded to the bottom so it replaced two of the four stock T-bolts that hold the shock plate on with two J-bolts that went towards the front of the bar to preload the bar). In the latter seventies Lakewood dropped the J-bolt to cut costs so fewer had them.

Thanks Big Dave,
Now on the look for GM shock plates for multi-leaf.

DSE sells them I believe along with a separate bolt on adapter that allows you to tie your car down on a trailer so you don't collapse the brake line wrapping a chain around the axle tube.

I bought the DSE 1967 Camaro shock plates for my 77. I have to move the drivers side shock in front of the axle and needed the 67 F body plates to do it. They are much thicker than stock, close to 3/8" plate. I also ordered the longer u bolts from them, for all of it was over a $120 with shipping. It would have been another $35 for the tie down plates, but they would work great.
