I need some help with my tag and vin codes on my 68.

VIN:113278W312650

Tag:

ST 68-11427 WRN 55633

I posted another topic for my 75. Just so I can keep the answers straight between the two cars, Thanks

Your VIN is as follows-
1=Chevrolet, 13=Chevy II Nova L6, 27= 2 door, 8=1968 year model, W=Willow Run MI plant, The remaining numbers are production sequence.

The cowl tag is-
ST 68= 1968, -1=Chevrolet, 14= Chevy Nova V8, (which is a discrepency with your vin) 27=2 door, WRN= Willow Run , 55633= production sequence(also indicating a discrepancy in tag/vin.)
TR 733= black vinyl bench (standard), G= Ash Gold 2=Black Vinyl roof

04=April, B=2nd week (assembly dates)

Does it have a V8 now? Did someone try to pass it for an SS?

Yes it has a 350 in it now. No it wasn't passed as an SS. Thanks

And just curious, how can I find out what engine size it originally had? I mean more that just how many cylinders you had under the hood.

The 1968 Nova (or the Chevy II) shipped with a 307, 327, or a 350 if it had eight cylinders. Most were 307, few were 327, and a 350 meant that it was an SS car, or COPO (such as a police interceptor as people seem to forget that the entire world in addition to Dick Harrell, Don Yenko or Baldwin Chevrolet had access to the COPO process).

If your VIN on the dash starts out 11327 which yours does, that Nova came with a six cylinder. No way to really prove much on 68-71 Novas without original paperwork since the trim tags and VINs only tell number of cylinders.
