I have been around the block on this issue. When I got my 70 Nova, the guy before me took out the bench seat and stuck a set of Nissan seats in it using 2X4's and wood screws (yikes!). I ripped all that out to find a bunch of holes that I had to weld over.
I bought a set of PROCAR Scat Pro-90 seats (very retro looking) with mounting adapters. Mine are black low backs. The pictures below are just samples. You have a choice of highback or low back:

The outboard captive nuts in the floor pan line up with the adapters. I had to drill holes for the inboard mounts since it used to be a bench. 5/16 hardware and you're all done! They set a little high, but not bad. I could always have an upholstery shop cut down the foam in the seats if it bothered me that much.
It's hard to find the original bucket seats. If you do, they are usually a rusted and torn mess. Also way over priced. You can try to adapt various later model seats, but odds are you will need to build an adapter out of sheet metal.
Good luck

This will give you a rough idea of the stock buckets: http://www.classicnovas.net/brochure/72-9.htm

It also depends on the interior code..ss, rallye..etc..I believe the ss came with the high back, while just the nova came with low back..just another confusion to add to the plate.

I think the 72 Nova only came with the high back bucket seats as new crash standards were taking place in the industry and the low back did not support the neck in a rear collision. Also the 72 Nova did not have the adjustable head rest on their seats it was all a one piece deal. Also because of the crash standards I think all the front benches did come equiped with the adjustable head rests.

The link by Danno shows the correct bucket seat for 72. The headrest was integrated into the seat for 72.:)
