Looking to see if this car is a factory 4sp car before I purchase it.
Car was purchased in 1977 and was driven home and never on the road again. Car was used to race in super stock. Odometer is now showing only 65 miles on it. I use to race with this person, so I know the milage is true. The person that bought it passed away 25 years ago and his wife can't tell me if the 4sp is orignal.
Here are the codes:
St77 1xx27w156390
24R A52 22 22
02c BL 06 24
I know 02c is Feb 3rd week
22 22 Light blue/Light blue
a52 Bench seat?
24R ???
BL 06 24 ????
Any help to identify if this is a 4sp car? Thanks.

Welcome to the site Tex. Without the build sheet or original sales invoice it may be hard to tell. Since you live in Canada if the car was originally built for sale in Canada you can get information from GM of Canada (http://www.chevelles.com/vvs/)by submitting the VIN and some dollars. If it was a 4 speed it would have had a Saginaw and if raced it would not have lasted long.

Thanks Philip,
I'm going to take the vin into the dealership Monday. I'm not sure if they can run the number like newer cars and get all of the options on the car, but worth a try. After that, like you said, I'll have to go and try GM canada.
Knowing Ed, I'm sure he changed the trans to a m20/or22. It looks like he modified the floor slightly for the shifter handle. There is no consol, and the odometer doesn"t show "PRND" that I see on the net pictures for auto cars.

Tex I forgot about the speedometer. I am swapping mine because of the conversion to a manual trans. That is a very good indicator along with the factory hole in the floor. If you have an M22 under the floor that would be a definate plus.
Might I ask why you are hesitant to buy the car without knowing if it was a factory 4 speed? I would be all over a low mileage 77 with a race history. Do you have any photos of it?

I don't want an automatic car. Love my 4 sp's.
No pictures. They are asking 10k canadian and I think that is a bit much.
This is a no options car, well kept in a dry garage. Someone broke in and stoll the original motor off the floor. Race motor is still in the car.
Number 1 and 2 cars pricing is only around 7kus. I think the car is only worth 5kc.
Just doing my research before making an offer.

I agree 10k is a little high in anyones money. I paid $600 for my non runnng 77 with a perfect body. No dents, dings or rust. Now it will be the manual transmission every car dreams of having ;)
