Hi Nova nuts. I am building a 69 Nova & would like to get the orig history correct. I can get most of the info off the internet to decipher all the basic codes on the cowl. However, who's the expert now...? The third line reads 09 D A 1 ... I know the 09 is for Sept & D is for the 4th week when it was built. However, written in the center of line 3 is "A 1" & I can find no reference for it in the info I have found so far. Does anybody know what it means?
Another interesting thing about the car: The cowl tag indicates on the first line ST 69 11427 WRN... I found info that states the 14 in this number means the car was built with a V8. However, I took a 6 cyl out and the rear end seems to be for a 6. Can't figure out if the V8 was replaced (which is possible) or if the numbers may be incorrect. And, does it have anything to do with the "A 1" referred to above?
I see from another Q Rich answered that the A is for vinyl top. Is the 1 for Blk? It did have a blk vinyl top. & do you know where to find this info on the web (detailed cowl tag info)
After speaking to non experts we can only conclude that it was in production & changed for a special order. Does anyone know if this was an occasional practice or are the cowl tags always correct? Pls let me know thru my e-mail address or this forum.
Thx, Bruser
