Welcome Vincent. We need a little more info to help you. What size engine, what transmission? When you rev it up is it smooth or missing? Will it idle if you don't rev it up and let off? Has any work been done recently and did this occur after the work?

its 194 inline 6 its all stock when i rev its sounds smooth . if i dont rev it will idle sounds good then when i rev it and let off it will stall. if i rev it and let go it stalls .it looks like the flap gets stuck on the carb when i push it down its stays runing after i rev it i have to push the flap down before it stalls

Is it the top flap you are referring to? That is the choke and it should stay open except when the engine is first started. When cold the flap closes to help start the emgine by allowing less air enrichening the mixture. It should open part way as soon as the engine is running and open fully in the next few minutes.

What year is your car? Different years have different devices for the choke. Basicly they all have a vacuum device that pulls it open when the engine first starts, then the choke spring opens it the rest of the way. The vacuum pull off can be internal or external depending on the year. The choke spring can be either part of the carb or attached to the engine with a rod that actuates the flap. In your case it may be that the pull off is opening the choke, but the choke spring is not pulling it to the full open position and holding it there. When you rev the motor the vacuum drops off allowing the flap to close and can not recover fast enough to the open position and it cause the engine to stall.

its a 62 conv nova it has a 1 BARRELL carb it has the heat choke yes when i first start the car its close then it does open a little when it gets warm so when i rev it the flap opens all the way thats when it stalls but if i put my finger a push the flap down little the car recovers and if i take my finger off it will open all the way and the car will stall thanks very much Philip

Sounds like the choke is either bad or need to be adjusted. Does this happen in the morning only when the car is still cold or is this when the car is already warmed up?

Your choke is probably bad.............

Is it possible that your idle adjusment is too low? If you hold the throttle open after the choke fully opens does the engine stay running? Also, I've had trouble myself with dirt in the idle circuit in the past. Something you can try if you suspect this is to remove the idle mixture screw and spray some carb. cleaner in that orifice(or compressed air) to dislodge anything that may be in there. When putting back the screw seat it all the way in gently and turn out 2 and 1/2 turns which is a good starting point.
