Friend of mine is running 10.5 Mickeys on his Nova and has excellent clearance. Using an eight inch wheel with 5,5" back spacing. He said they just had to do "some" inner fender massaging....
This sound right to you guys?
Mine sets stock height and I'd like to run as much tire as possible to plant the power from the 540 to the ground if that's possible. haha
Give me some ideas guys. Heard 275X60X15's was it but all of them I see are chewed up from going around corners. True or false?

On my '70 I'm running a 15 x 8 Centerline with 5" backspacing (5-1/4" backspacing on the wheel and a 1/4" spacer plate) and a 275/60/15 M/T ET Street Radial for street use, and the same size rim with 28 x 10.5 15 M/T Et Drag slicks. I've had the outer lips rolled for clearance and "massaged" the inner with the BFH mod!

I've got 8" Welds with 4.5" back spacing. Think that'll work for the 275X60's?
Haven't looked at the buddys car to check the shocks and just what all was done. Get over there this evening. Let you know.

mr hipp..there probably going to rub..you either need a 7" wide rim, which a guy named 68chevyII has some 28x10.50's with out any rubbing our your going to need atleast 4.75-5" bsp..just my opinion

8" rim , 5" back space , smaller hammer mod , and the 275/60/15 M/T drag radials will fit but you probably won't plant them unless you work on the front to back weight bias , some traction device like cal tracs or slide a links with drag shocks and springs all around. The right trans and converter will help alot too along with gearing. Also sub frame connecters and an 8 point roll bar to stiffen the chassis. A buddy of mine has a 66' that is a tubbed full on drag car that weighs 3200 lbs and the 540 I built him has netted a best of 9.04 at 151 mph all motor. Trips the 60' beams at 1.35 with the back tires and on the wheelie bars.

Cal Trac's are next. Got the frame connectors already on. Just picked up some eight inch wheels with five and a half inch back spacing like my buddies. Changing rear shocks to a Lakewood #40300 which doesnt have a dust cover and gives the needed clearance.
Jay it's a street car so no roll bars here. Gave up racing after twenty years about two years ago. Just an old cruiser now...heh heh:thumbsup:

15X8 with 5"backspacing. Also did some inner wheel well mods and relocated the shocks. Running 28-10.5-15 MT's with traction help from Caltracs.
Best 60 ft has been a 1.42, foot brak'n with a little ol 355.

Yep the 15X8 with 5" back spacing would be perfect. Got 275X60X15's on there and seem to be okay. Just a street radial right now. When I upgrade the rear end I'll get them 5" bs wheels and move to a Mickey tire.
