The car will be running a Z06 drivetrain which includes a 505 hp LS7 engine, 6 speed T-56 Transaxle. Suspension will also be Z06 except for the Upper Control Arms which we've modified to take advantage of better suspension geometry.
Hope ya like it!

Thanks Bob! I'll let you in on a little secret!:secret:
When I first started this project I wanted the car to be built as a hybrid street/race car. Kind of a Euro Super Car but all American Muscle. Since then I've had so many inquiries by manufacturers wanting to sponsor the car that it's quickly turning into a show car. Not that thats bad but I can already see the look on all the sponsors faces when I drive the car into their booth and there are little nicks and rock chips from driving it on the track!
So I'm kind of torn between the two right now as to what I should do!
John
67 canso s/d Jul 26th, 07, 02:05 PM Tough choice. They are made to drive tho. That's half the fun.:D Go with you're gut feeling.;) Man, i can't wait to see her done. She's going to be a neck breaker, no matter what you decide.
I am working on mine also. But lots to do yet. Getting lots of good advice, and learning a whole bunch as i go.:)Getting some ideas from pics too. Not stealing anything, just some good points and stuff.
John, we sure would like more pics too.
Show her off.

As far as the sponsers, they may put up the cash but the car is yours to do with as you like. Maybe they can spring for paint touch up before the events you have to attend :D

1quik69 Aug 3rd, 07, 12:32 AM Hey Novanut, I can't believe that these are these first pictures I have seen of your car. I might be wrong but I don't recall seeing any over on Steve's. Sweet looking project, can't wait to see it finished. Incredible workmanship from what I can see. What kind and size wheels are those?

Sorry to disappoint but this isn't my handy work! Can I bend tube and weld? Sure, but definitley not as good as these guys!:noway:
I've restored and built many a car but never to this level! When I bought the car I originally planned to drop a front clip, mini tub it and be done but I knew I would never get the stance and I, definitley, didn't have the talent to build a chassis like this which is what I REALLY wanted to do! In essence I wouldn't be totally happy with the build since I don't posses the talent level to build it to my expectation. This had been my experience with most of the other builds I have done myself. Even though there was a certain sense in that I did it myself it was never as nice as I would really have liked it to be! Plus, with my hectic schedule it would take me years to finish something even remotely close to this magnitude. When I saw their work it was hard not to do it especially since I am in a position in my life to be able to afford this type of build!
I plan on wiring and handling the drivetrain and tuning part of it but my metal fab skills are nowhere near as good as these guys! Why try and fab something substandard in comparison to what they can do all in the name of "I did it myself!"? Granted, I truly appreciate and envy when someone can entirely build the car of their dreams by themselves but if I want the car to the expected level that I wanted to build it, it wasn't going to be me doing the metal fab. Besides, I don't have the right tools to shape metal the way this build needed it shaped nor do I have the space and I would have to spend as much in equipment as the build itself is costing. I don't plan on building hotrods for a living so for me it just didn't make sense!:noway:
Thanks Beto! When you do a ground up like this you can pretty much do whatever you want!:D
John
strtlegal Aug 16th, 07, 01:32 AM bastard!!! me likey the brakes!!! your going to love those m/c ..a buddy and i fabbed up a dual master cylinder on his brake pedal ( front and rear master cylinders) from wilwood and you slam on the brakes it will put you through the windshield and its just 12" rotors and stock drums..i couldnt imagine if it had 13" front and 12" rear..:clonk:

LOL!!! I was driving Brycens Honda with the 12" brakes. Thank god I had the 5 point harness on because if I didn't I would have gone through the windshield!
Wait till you see the reservoirs I'm designing for the brake and clutch!:D
John
BTW I'm not going to use the actual Wilwood pedal rather I just wanted to use their assembly!:D:secret:
strtlegal Aug 16th, 07, 11:56 AM ditching the plastics?
Novanutcase Aug 16th, 07, 01:05 PM ditching the plastics?
Yup!!! When I was at the shop I made a mockup of the reservoirs with some scrap DOM since I can't draw worth a sh!t!
Yes, I actually do get my hands dirty cutting and welding, especially since Ironworks has all the gear to do it right, but those bastards make me look like a rank amateur!:D. When I was making the mockup Sean, Brycen and Rodger just stood there and laughed at me!:o They kept messing with the welder and I'd keep burning through the work! I'd show you my "Artwork" but Rodger doesn't want anyone to see my design until we get it on the car. I think he's going to start manufacturing them!
Once that was made, and Rodger finally understood what it was I wanted to do, he and I got on Solidworks and started designing the reservoirs and clamps that'll hold the reservoirs and the reservoir caps!
It's gonna be cool!
John

Novanutcase Aug 29th, 07, 01:44 AM NOVANUTCASE, do you have more progress pics?

Not right now but I should be due soon! We're really more in the design phase of all the details right now! Most of the major stuff is pretty much out of the way! We're trying to figure out what we're going to do with the bumpers! Last weekend I was up there and we were brainstorming trying to figure out the best way to suck in the bumpers!
Also, this friday is an opentrack day at Buttonwillow and since the car is not ready(Obviously!) I'm going to take Rodgers Fox body mustang out for a spin around the track. I need to get some seat time as it's been a while since I've lapped a car around a track! Wish me luck!

John
Novanutcase Sep 27th, 07, 02:02 AM Dropped her down to ride height(4.5 at the cowl!) to make sure wheel clearance is OK! Rodger wanted to see what it would look like with big rotors so he stuck his truck rotor on the back wheel!

Some damn nice goodies too. It is great to see some big boys like Comp Cams/Fast and BF Goodrich get on board for you and Roger along with the rest of your sponsers.
They can see what's happining and transforming, so why not get on board with a winner.:thumbsup:
Nice John, real nice.:thumbsup::thumbsup::)

Thanks Bob! That's very kind of you!

jays64II Oct 14th, 07, 02:00 PM John .... why so much extra tubing ? I mean....god....i've built 4 full tube frame drag cars that don't have 1/2 the tubing that thing has !
I see ya have a nice list of sponsors. How does that work and how much are they contributing both $$$ and parts and such ?
I'm looking for some sponsorship for my NSS/FX car. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks , Jay

Just wanna make sure she's nice and stiff! LOL! So far we're still on target for overall weight of the car so the extra stiffness is just a plus!:)
As Bob mentioned, sponsors are looking for the most exposure they can get for what they are investing in parts or $$$ for the car they are sponsoring. The quickest and most effective way is through media since having a sticker on your car, although effective, doesn't give the amount and type of exposure that really makes an impact with most people. Thankfully, the media has looked on my build favorably and I guess they feel that it will continue to garner attention in high profile mags which is where they will get the most bang for their buck!
Most of the sponsors I have have offered me free parts but with that comes rules and regulations that I have to follow such as my being in X amount of shows a year, position of their logo, etc. I've been down that road and chose not to go down it again so I opted for discounted parts and the freedom to do whatever I wanted. It was more a good faith type of deal for them since I can choose to not show or mention their product at all but that would be me shooting myself in the foot. I know I'll be doing other builds so why not give them more than they expected so that next time they will welcome me with open arms! It isn't any harder to do this than to not show anything of theirs. Now, I'm not sure if they do this type of deal normally so my situation may be different than yours but ultimatlely the decision is theirs to make.
In terms of how I got them, I just solicited them either through e-mail or meeting them at shows. Some I got through the shop that is doing the metal fab. Some I already knew through previous builds that I did. Once I/the shop showed them where we were at and where we wanted to go with the build most have been more than happy to contribute what we requested.

jays64II Oct 14th, 07, 11:48 PM Ahh....I see. Yeah....i'm more of a racer. Hate car shows. They tend to be quite biased. Guess I'll hafta keep doing this outta my own pocket.
Novanutcase Oct 15th, 07, 01:45 AM Ahh....I see. Yeah....i'm more of a racer. Hate car shows. They tend to be quite biased. Guess I'll hafta keep doing this outta my own pocket.
Honestly! As attractive as "sponsorship" seems it ain't all it's cracked up to be! If you get a full sponsorship they want you to be at all the major shows, at your expense, and, usually, want to have a photo session with the car that eats up at least a couple days so unles you're indepently wealthy and have the time to cruise around the show circuit, in the end it really is better to just buy it. If you can get a discount then cool but again not really worth the hassle. I like going to shows but shows that I want to go to. I also like to be able to decide what show my car will be in and not have to be mandated as to the shows that I need to be at. That takes ALL the fun out of being at shows and just turns it into a job!
I also prefer to be behind the wheel flogging the car than watching it sparkle under the convention hall lights, stressing out because some kid with an ice cream cone in one hand and a choclatey mess in the other is about to touch my car!
This is why I opted to do the heavy discount/just promote as best you can deal! Way more freedom!
John
jays64II Oct 16th, 07, 12:04 AM I hear that ! I'm just trying to get a guy that i used to work for in the automotive lift/equip. biz to throw some money my way. I think I have him talked into it. I'm gonna have his biz on the trunk of the car on one of those big magnetic signs so I can take it off and on and i'll set up a table at my pits and sell his product. I told him "where are you gonna find a salesman who will promote/sell your products/services 40 weekends a year at local and regional racing events for $5000 a year ?"

Brother! You're GIVING it away! That guy is getting a DEAL! You better rethink it because you know he's making at least $2,000 a lift and if 3 lifts sell because of your endorsement he definitely made his money back plus getting it in front of a lot of eyeballs! Are you sure you want to be stuck behind a table hockin' lifts?
Sure that mag signs gonna stay on the car? LOL! If you're building drag cars your gonna shake that thing off!! LOL!

jays64II Oct 16th, 07, 06:46 AM The magnet works good ! I had one on the car before.
There is no way he makes that on a lift. I used to install and do service work for him.
I'm not looking for his sponsorship to pay for everything. $5k will cover all my fuel for the year , 2 sets of tires , and all my entry fees

Hey Bob!
Everything is good and, so far, on schedule! Right now we are in a bit of a holding pattern waiting for parts! Ricks Hot Rod shop is supposedly shipping out the gas tank so we should have that in a couple of days! We received the carbon fiber drive shaft and it looks REALLY cool! I'll try and post a pic tomorrow! The guys at the shop are working on the gaps and finish welding everything. We still need to work on placing the dry sump but we have some good ideas so once we get it in place I'll also post some pics of that.
It must be nice to have your car home. Have you made any progress on your car? I can't wait for that day for me!:D
I'm in Bakersfield staying at Rodgers house so it's nice to see the Nova everyday. I'll be here for a couple more days working on the '03 Mustang that I'm building into a road race car! I'm trying to get it ready for friday for te open track day they're having! So far I've replaced the entire front and rear suspension with a full race setup and tomorrow I'll be installing the Wilwood brakes and the panhard bar. The long tube headers and midpipe where supposed to be here today but they told me they won't be ready until next week so I'll have to install those next time I come up along with the torque arm. I also ordered some 31 spline axles and 4:10 gears. That should complete the mods I want to do to the car. I'm still trying to decide on wheels and tires! I'm looking for something light and strong but not to expensive. BFG says they will give me a sete of R1's at a discount price so hopefully it's a BIG discount!:D
Oh well! Enough of my ramblings!

Novanutcase Oct 27th, 07, 04:53 PM AWRIGHT! You asked for it!
Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft. All the stuff on the Racks is the FAST/Comp Cams stuff they sent me!
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/PICT0018-1.jpg
Fesler Hood Hinges. I met Chris Fesler at Good Guys Columbus. He saw the project I'm doing and sent me the billet hood hinges he makes. Pictures do not do these justice! They are absolutely beautiful! Thanks Chris!
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/PICT0019-2.jpg
Wilson Hood Pins. Ron Wilson was nice enough to send me some hood pins for mock up to see if they worked with the car. Thanks Ron!
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/PICT0020-3.jpg
Some of the Furd stuff I did up in Bakersfield! (Thanks Jason for helping me out!)
Front End:
Ripped out the stock suspension and replaced it with a lighter tubular K-Member, tubular LCA's, Bilstein HD coilovers to replace stock struts and a bumpsteer kit along with Wilwood Superlite 6 big brake kit on the front!
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/PICT0013-2.jpg
Thats Sean installing the brake lines(I suck at bending brake line!). He's showing me how much he loves bending brake line! LOL!
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/PICT0009-3.jpg
Installed some caster/camber plates so that we can easily adjust the camber for track days.
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/PICT0016-1.jpg
Rear:
Replaced the Rear stock LCA with a lighter Road race one and replaced the stock shocks with Bilstein HD coilovers. I still need to install the panhard bar and torque arm but I'll do that when the Long tube headers and midpipe arrive next week.
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/PICT0011-3.jpg
Spherical bushings for rear shocks for better shock articulation
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/PICT0004-3.jpg
When I do the headers, PHB and TA I'm also going to have the 31 spline axles, Posi and 4:10 gears installed by another shop. This way when I get it back I can put the Wilwood Superlite 4 piston brake kit on the rear axle.
John
67 canso s/d Oct 29th, 07, 11:18 AM Wow, we weren't really ready for all that...lol;):D:D
Sheesh John, those are some sweet components.
Gotta love those hinges, man they are so neat and clean looking.
As for that drive shaft, i am lost for words.:thumbsup::D
I am so anxious to see her when she is done, i feel like i was the one at the other end waiting.:D:D:D
Hope you had a great time in Bakersfield.:)

Novanutcase Nov 29th, 07, 07:10 PM I'm Tired, Dirty and Hungry!
I just got back from the great north(Bakersfield)! I was finishing up the suspension mods on the '03 Mustang along with discussing design ideas with Rodger for the Nova! I almost broke my thumb drilling a hole in one of the Mustangs frame rails to install a Panhard Bar! The drill caught up in the hole and twisted me up along with bending my thumb back to my wrist!
MAN! My thumb is STILL sore!http://climbatizeut.users.btopenworld.com/f-smilies/f-dummy.gif
Enough Furd BS, on to some of the Nova developments!
As I had said before, we are pretty much in the design phase for all the little details that we need to take care of. I know it seems like "What's the big deal? Why should it take this long?" but. like they say, the devils in the details!
Cowl close off
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/Cowl.jpg
Close off close up. I like the way Brycen kept the hinges inset in the door frame! BTW Brycen is the guy in the picture above!
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/Cowla.jpg
In one of our many design meetings, I had asked Rodger and Brycen to smooth the dash completely so that we had a clean slate to mount whatever gauges, buttons, and whatever other accessories we are going to need. As usual, I told Brycen to use his creative skills as he always has and try and come up with something unique. I've always told the guys that in as much as we are fabricating a lot of the car it has to look stockish. In other words, when you look at it at first glance it looks stock but upon further inspection you realize it isn't! Brycen smoothed the dash but he decided to add a small bead around the edge! I think he really hit my design goals with it! I like it!
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/DashA.jpg
Brycen also thought it would look cleaner if we gusseted parts of the cage like this!
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/Gussetcage.jpg
We had to put a new top on the stainless gas tank since the fill hole wasn't working out for what we have planned. We waterjetted an aluminum piece and attached the fittings to it!

Lookin real nice!
I wanted to know your opinion on using some 33x22 MT Sportsman's on 15x15 wheels? The minimum recommended width is 15, and I really dont like sticking with the minimum, but draglite I dont believe makes a 16" width. Thoughts?
Dont mean to interrupt the beautiful pictures...continue on!
Thanks.

Doesn't Weld make a 16" wheel that will fit those meats?
John
63nova9sec Nov 30th, 07, 01:20 AM They may, but from what I understand draglites only go up to 15" width in the 15's. The range of width recommend by MT is 15-18, but my thinking is 15 is kinda on the weak side for these. 15x16 would make me feel a lot more comfortable, and I have the order from summit delivering 15x15 soon. They said as long as I find another wheel than I can refuse shipment and get a another set. I already have the fronts though, so Id like to stick to draglites, at least for now.

You might want to go to a custom wheel but they are pricey! This way you can dictate whatever size you want!

OH YEAH!!! I got to drive a Z06. The salesman was so pi$$ed at me after we got back to the dealership! I think he crapped his pants! Hahahaha!!! It was so funny! He drove the car out of the lot and was driving down the street telling me all the great things about the car but then I started asking him questions about road feel, etc. He pulled over and let me drive! BIG MISTAKE! LOL! There was this semi-long sweeper going back to the dealership that I was doing around 85 on. He kept screaming "SLOW DOWN!!!"" but I didn't listen to him! Like I said, he was so pi$$ed! Especially after he sort of composed himself he went back into the salesman mode and asked me "So......should we start filling out the paperwork?". I told him I had to think about it! I think he's still standing there with his jaw on the floor! Hahahahahahaha!

It's my 1st build so I want to start with realistic goals. 1st time in this chat room, but I am in the planning phase of building a 63 chevy 2dr touring vehicle.
Basically moderate power (350-400hp) but I do want a great riding and reliable vehicle. I am looking at suspension replacement
1st. I have been talking to Heidt and TCI and have left messages with the roadster shop and intend to call DSE (detroit speed
and engineering) as well. Any suggestions of other suppliers or testimonials and or problems with the suppliers I already
mentioned?

Hey Matt!
First of all, Welcome!
For your car and what you want to do with it, I would do the following:
Chassisworks Chevy II G-Machine Subframe
http://www.cachassisworks.com/cac_library_7700.html#Crossmember
Subframe connectors. Not sure who makes a good one for your year car but Chassisworks might have one.
Dana 60 or 12 bolt rear with Posi and 31 spline axles
http://www.moserengineering.com/
Chassisworks has a real stout center section but I'm not sure if you'll be doing that much drag racing since you said that you want to build a touring car.
Driveshaft loop and rear crossmember to tie the SFC's to.
Wilwood SLP 6 Front Big Brake Kit and SLP 4 Rear Big Brake Kit
TKO500 5 speed Tranny(T-56 6 speed if you want to go full out!)
LS1 or LS2
With this setup you'll be able to pretty much hunt down whatever is out there(Except for my car! LOL!)! The LS motors take very well to head and cam swapouts!

Novanutcase Jan 19th, 08, 03:07 AM Pics have been a long time coming but, honestly, we haven't really done a lot of sheetmetal/Tube work since the chassis is pretty much done and the main sheetmetal is also pretty much done. Now it's just the little details like sway bar mounts, gussets, etc. but here are some pics that you might like:
The Meat Wagon has arrived! Notice the height of the rear tires in relation to the bed side height! BUHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/shoppics1-18-2008007.jpg
Trunk side pans
In our many "Stand around and throw dumb ideas out" meetings Rodger came up with a great one as we stared at the gas tank and wondered what we would do with the spaces to the side of tank! Do we just cover them in sheetmetal? Naw! Too easy! He thought to put the battery on one side and a toolbox of sorts on the other, kind of like what you get when you buy one of those luxury european super cars but with better tools(Snap On).

Final Dry Sump placement! Note the cooler than Fonzie brackets that we had waterjetted! These are straight off the jet. We will refine them and anodize. Now I gotta figure out what color to anodize them! OH CRAP! I gotta pick a color? AGAIN??!!??

jays64II Apr 15th, 08, 12:27 AM maybe john needs to write some more checks ? must be nice to have someone else build a car for ya. trust me...i'm not bitter at all. I do all my own fab work , motor work , trans , driveline , chassis , body paint....i know what it takes.....BUT....in the end if you have someone build a car for you do you really have the satisfaction of calling it "yours" or is it just the name on the title. I'm sure in the end it will be a beautiful car. Does a wax and shine pit crew come with the title ?

In any case Ironworks is installing the gussets(Hey Jay! I designed them! Does that count?!?http://climbatizeut.users.btopenworld.com/f-smilies/more-smilies/fuku.gif) to firm up the front end. One of Rodgers clients wanted to scale his car and was nice enough to let Rodger scale some of the other projects so we got the '66 up on the scale and checked to see how much it weighed so far! Most all of the major components are in the car so I'm guessing with the glass and interior it should add around 300 more pounds!:)

Yup! And just think......'vettes are around 3200lbs and mine is going to be supercharged! BUHAHAHAHAHA!!!!:D
So we've been working on finishing off all the mechanical systems of the car so that we can get to working on the cosmetic parts of the car. One of the things I wanted to get done was the supercharger plumbing. It is TIGHT in there!

red nova Jul 6th, 08, 09:51 PM Hey Novanut! I love your ride, but I dont think I can park
my ride for that long. I was thinking maybe 2 or 3 months parked
at a time would be long enough at any one time. Doing changes
to the front end, mini tubbs, interior. I'm building a 383 stroker
right now. Maybe you have some ideals about how i should prepare
doing this i really appreciate your time....

raidmagic Jul 28th, 08, 03:37 PM Hey John is the bottom end stock? Have you done any research on the LS7 with a blower? Lot's of Corvette guys having problems with adding boost to the motor with the thin cylinder walls. Not in any way trying to rain on your parade I think the car is unreal but coming from the Corvette background just something for you to look into. I'd hate to see problems with the engine after all this work. I've been following your car from the beginning.
Novanutcase Jul 30th, 08, 11:51 PM Already talked to Procharger and they say that I shouldn't have any problems with the blower as long as I'm not boosting it above 4 1/2 psi. A lot of the problems that 'vette guys have is they are using too much boost and, thus, there goes the motor! I'll probably run around 3 lbs of boost just to err on the side of safety. Procharger says should be able to make around 700hp at the flywheel.

Hey John....no problem. like i said before. i wasn't breakin your balls too hard. just a lil ribbing. if you are doing some of the fab work yourself then good for you. if it's about 2700 lbs. i'm assuming alot of the tubing is CM. Work on that scale some more to get the corner weights proper and that number might change. my guess on your final curb weight with all fluids and a full tank of gas is gonna be about 3400-3500 lbs. depends how much fru fru stuff ya put in the interior. could be even heavier with a kickin stereo and electronic gizmos.
I myself just got done a long week after being at PINKS ALL OUT at Englishtown helping some friends and customers with their cars. They picked a class between 9.91 and 9.96. Unfortunately we had 3 all motor cars that were almost a full second too fast and 4 cars that normally run 10.0's all motor. all in all a good weekend. had a few friends from our local track (Atco Raceway 1-1/2 hrs south of Englishtown) make the final 16 but only one made the final 8 and that was that.
John....if you ever do a power tour or get on the east coast when the car is done i'd like to crawl around it and check out the work.

prorod Oct 8th, 09, 09:56 PM WOW! REALLY REALLY REALLY NICE NOVA! Cars are meant to drive, if your sponsers see some type of road rash they can brag your car and their products WORK and are meant to be driven, not some trailer queen for shows only. Some judges i have talked to said they wish they could give extra points for "road rash" Your Nova and what you are putting in it, hope you have a pilots license! Would really like to see the finish pics when its done.
Novanutcase Nov 19th, 09, 02:14 AM Christmas came early this year!!!:hurray:

NOGO Nov 19th, 09, 12:33 PM Christmas came early this year!!!:hurray:
I want to thank Tyler Beauregard and Anvilauto for setting up the project with this and the hood piece that's coming! I can't WAIT to see that! In fact, I can't wait to see them both on the car!!
Thanks Again Anvil!

PSSST....Brian! Call Tyler at AnvilAuto and see if he'll "loan" you the other prototype! It's probably at least 50 lbs lighter than stock. If it goes well you can ask him to "loan" you the other prototype of the hood that's supposed to come in soon. Make sure you let him know that you were in the last issue of Super Chevy!!!
I wonder what the difference in handling and times would be with 100lb's off the front and back of your car!!! Especially since that weight is leveraged at the ends of the fulcrum!(Not a bad little byline for Super Chevy to do a write up on! Especially since they already have the times that you ran in AX with the stock hood and trunk lid. If Super Chevy runs it, Anvil might "forget" about the hood and trunk on your car!;):D)
POWER TO WEIGHT BABY! POWER TO WEIGHT!!!:beers:
