i own a 74 nova and am wanting to convert to front disk. what is the cheapest and easiest way to do this. i know finding a doner at the junk yard is impossible and kits are really expensive. i heard rumors of using steering knuckles and calliper bracket off of f-body camaros and firebirds, but do not have any idea what is required to make it work. If you have any ideas please let me know.

I was under the impression that all 1969 and up F and X body cars came equipped with front disk brakes (11.0" disk with a single puck caliper). Some were power assist, and others were not.

Disc brakes were not standard on Novas until 75.

Then your donor car will be a 1969 Camaro or Firebird, ‘71-’72 Buick Special, ’69 Grand Prix, ’69 Olds F-85, or a Pontiac Tempest ‘69-‘72 (slim picking there, but if you find it will be Hollander number 1205). You can buy a complete kit from SSBC, or MP brakes or any of the other companies that have learned all of the part numbers to convert this over and have a cheap source or parts to sell you a complete package. All of the parts are available new (like I said you will need everything off of a '69 Camaro, that’s the spindles, dust shields, bearings, castle nuts, hardened keyed flat washers, cotter keys, bolts, calipers, rotors, and the brake flex lines) and you can upgrade any of those parts to shinny stuff like SS brake hose or Zinc washed slotted rotors or even a powder coated two or three puck caliper.

I'd buy new stuff rather than doing the junkyard used parts crawl. Kits are available for under $600 for all brand new stuff with a warranty from plenty of places.
