Anyone know if a rearend from a 78-79 nova and a 77 Pontiac Phoenix are the same size as a 72-75 nova?

The 1978-79 Nova is the same size as a 1972-'75 Nova. Just have to watch out that the motor is a V-8 and not a L-6 because they went to the 7.5" 10 bolt rear end in 1976 in all six banger applications with the 8.5" 10 bolt used in the V-8 cars.

Some of the 305 V8 cars also got the 7.5". Here is a chart to help tell the difference.

I've got all three sitting here right now along with a 10 bolt BOP out of a 1st gen Firebird and a 12 bolt truck rear. The 7.5" ten bolt and the BOP rear is just waiting for any empty spot on a salvage yard run.

In rereading this it appears your question has not been answered. The Phoenix is an X body just like the Nova so parts should interchange. Use the chart above to ID the rear end under the car.
