do you have a pic of the rear ? the tabs on the bottom of the pumpkin on the cover's mounting surface is the easiest way to tell. What did it come out of and what year ?

jay i don't have pics yet. it is a 72 chev? big boat biscayne or something like that. he said all it says on the body is chevrolet.
i have a 7.5 10 bolt and a 8.2 10 bolt. the 7.5 has the small tabs on the bottom. the 8.2 has the distinct cover as it shows in the nova axle code id. this one has the so called square tabs, but seem to be a bit different. the housing has the bump for the ring gear and (whatever you call it) bevel like on the 8.2, but only on the right side.
i drew a picture but couldn't copy and paste it. damn i tried it every which-a-way, but still couldn't do it. i hope this is of some help. the one in question also has (i will call them ears):confused:on top forward of the housing for the trailing arms. this is pretty vague jay.
is this a redneck discription or what!!!:D
jay thanks for the reply.:beers:

Sounds like a 1978 or later B-Body axle 8.5" ring gear 10 bolt from your description. Just check on line there are several sights that can ID the rear end from a line drawing

is one that has what you need.
