ME +1 LOL! :clonk: Every daily driver since 1988, for both the wife and I, have been 5-speeds. Soon-to-be hotrod Nova is an automatic. Go figure that one! burningsquirrels Oct 14th, 05, 10:18 AM ricer what the!? LOL! jsut coz i have papercuts for eyes and eat it with most meals doesn't mean i'm rice in the head! :clonk: :clonk: :clonk: :clonk: :clonk: :clonk: :clonk: :clonk: look! if you click the button to add the hammer heads in just the right sequence, you can almost get the v8 firing order right! :D:D:D 69NovaSS Oct 14th, 05, 10:25 AM ricer what the!? LOL! jsut coz i have papercuts for eyes and eat it with most meals doesn't mean i'm rice in the head! I dunno man...wanting to buy more then 1 cam for your V8 sounds like you HAD ricer leanings at the time due to most of them being duel cammed motors.:clonk: ..lol...just giving ya a hard time...Hey Burning are you going to the car show in Warner Robins this weekend? burningsquirrels Oct 14th, 05, 10:38 AM WR is kinda far... my friend tom from california (who got me into muscle) is coming next weekend, so i'm rushing to get my nova back into one piece so we can at least run around and get pulled over just like the good ol' california days :D:D:D yeah i thought i needed two cams for about 10 minutes, until i realized timing chains only had one cam gear rofl. then i figured out that all the pushrods go to one cam and that 16 lifters ride on the cam and.. well, you get the idea. i didn't know anything about engines at the time haha! did i tell you i got pulled over literally right after getting my permit for doing a burnout in front of a cop??? I WIN!!! :D:D:D 69NovaSS Oct 14th, 05, 10:49 AM did i tell you i got pulled over literally right after getting my permit for doing a burnout in front of a cop??? I WIN!!! :D:D:D LOL....the first speeding ticket I ever got (1 of only 2) was in my Nova, I had only had it about a month at the time. (this was before I matured and came to the realization that speeds like that only belong on a track) It was at night and I was doubling the speed limit (some guy in a 5.0 mustang was trying to catch me but he was so far behind me it really couldn't be called a race;) ) when I saw the police go flying by in the other direction and then spin around on the highway to come after me. Well luckly for me I pulled right over and waited for them to catch up. The cop liked the car , we chatted about it for a while, and the fact I didnt make him chase me so he knocked it down a ton and I got a hugh break on my fine and I didn't loose my licience on the spot. Oh well its all fun and games when your young and dumb...but later after you get more mature you realize just how lucky you were not to have died on those highways back then doing stupid things. :) burningsquirrels Oct 14th, 05, 10:58 AM yeah i drove pretty stupid once i got behind the wheel but i backed off a ton after that first pull-over. for the remainder of my time in california, i would get pulled over minimum once a week. my worst night was three times in the 2 miles going home from work! in the valley, being young, shaved head, male, in a loud, rowdy car at 2am is not the best situation. i would get off from work around that time and got pulled over often. this was because there was a huge street racing problem in my area, and i guess i looked like trouble. i got pulled over right as i left work, pulled over after making the first left into the college campus, then as i made the right turn onto my street, i got pulled over in front of my apartment. fscking nuts!!! the third time i just talked to the officer and i was like, look officer, i'm not trying to cause trouble, i just got off work (pointed to uniform) and i just want to go home, i live right there (pointed across street). he still wrote me up a warning for dim license plate light (hey, i got a non reflective original black plate!) and another warning for excessive exhaust noise. ridiculous, but i miss it :) i'm suprised i never got to know any by name :o:o:o basketcase Oct 14th, 05, 02:05 PM My first car was a manual. I was thrown the keys, and told to go to Kansas City. That was an experience, but I had time to learn on I-35 and I-70. By the weekend I was a pro. Haven't had one since. Company truck was a stick, but little ranger my LONG legs, my knee just didn't like it. I was looking for a 6spd Camaro/Firebird a while back, but decided on the Nova instead. It's got a PG. DANNO Oct 14th, 05, 07:09 PM My first car was a 55 Plymouth with a three-on-the-tree. I had learned to drive in my grandmother's 57 Plymouth that had a push-button-on-the-dash auto. But a couple of times around the block in the 55 and I had it down.:D Dan (whose next 7 or 8 cars were sticks);) NovaSS69396 Oct 14th, 05, 08:03 PM Looks like you made it over as well Dan, welcome to the new site. Lol. Gotta love the sticks, nothing like rowin the gears in a V8 powered machine, or anymachine for that matter, shiftin can make any car feel like a hot rod, even the 1987 turbo sprint i learned to shift in!!! Now that was a fun car....haha Kasey 1bad66ss Oct 14th, 05, 09:43 PM The first car I learned to drive was also a three on the tree. I have to admit it's been a few years since I driven a stick. dads68 Oct 14th, 05, 10:46 PM My first car was a 62 chevy biscayne three on the tree. I think everyone should learn to drive a stick first. I taught my 2 sons on a 5 speed camaro. Ed henrypgrogan Oct 15th, 05, 01:32 AM every day, all day long. hpg SHIFTY4 Oct 15th, 05, 03:29 AM i didn't bother checkin' the poll... only SISSYS can't SHIFT !!!!!! ;) Shifty Johnny (GOTTA be GRABBIN') Gears ;) :) :) C'Mon Squirrelly... get out there and GRAB 'em !!!! :D NIGHTSHADE Oct 17th, 05, 12:39 AM Shiftings easy, I just choose not to. Love my TH. 1qwikss Oct 25th, 05, 11:47 PM if i had the extra $ i'd be dropping a tremec 5 speed in my 69.:) burningsquirrels Apr 15th, 07, 01:47 AM Thread From The Dead!!! :d :d :d Big Dave Apr 15th, 07, 09:15 AM They call them standad transmissions for a reason. When I learned to drive no body could afford an automatic transmission so every one learned on a manual (with me it was in a Prewar Hudson L-6 flat head three in the tree). Of course I had been driving Ag tractors (Ford-Furgeson 35, Model M John Deere, and a Model L Ford) since I was six so a clutch was nothing new new. Big Dave big gear head Apr 15th, 07, 10:39 AM If I had my way ALL cars and trucks would have 3 pedals in the floor. I have no use for an automatic. Too bad I'm forced to drive one right now while my truck is broke down waiting for me to get it fixed. jays64II Apr 15th, 07, 02:59 PM Me and big dave are from the same school ! lol ! I grew up on and still live on our 800 acre peach and apple farm. Farming has been in our family for 5 generations and I own the house my great great grandfather built in 1802. I took my famers lic. driving test at 16 in a 65' 1-1/2 ton Dodge stake body , learned how to drive a 53' Ford Golden jubilee farm tractor around 6 or so , was loading and unloading trucks and trailers on a forklift at age 10. I used to hustle truck drivers for lunch money by picking quarters off the concrete with the forks of the forklift !!! I think big dave has a few years on me though. I didn't own an automatic until I started bracket racing...lol ! Gloryhound Apr 17th, 07, 04:52 AM Learned to drive in a 1960 ford with an unsynchronized 3 speed on the column. The big question out of those who know how to drive a stick shift knows what double clutching is, why it is used, and have "had" to do it themselves? Big Dave Apr 17th, 07, 06:29 PM I used to drive a Diamond Reo 28' flat bed twin screw with a two speed rear that had to be double clutched to shift the rear gears for highway driving around 4th or fifth gear; you would shift the rear end first and then down shift the tranny for smoothest rate of acceleration. I was delivering steel (rebar) to construction sites. Big Dave xinloi44 Apr 26th, 07, 08:38 PM I learned waaaay back when to drive a standard transmisson. First car was a 49 Plymouth. Have had many cars/trucks since then some sticks, some auto. At the present, all of ours are autos. Thought about putting a 4 speed in the Nova, but we'll see. Done the double clutching on the big rigs also. I'm done with trucking after 31 years. To many idiots on the road. Don patman Mar 19th, 08, 12:25 AM I bought my first car, dropped a different engine in it, then realized I didn't know how to drive a stick. I learned quick... That was 30 years ago, and I've had a manual transmission DD ever since. The Nova is an automatic, the only automatic trans car I've owned until very recently. burningsquirrels Mar 19th, 08, 12:28 AM actually we now own an '07 saturn sky redline turbo with a 5 speed. i drive it everywhere and bark into second and third. just don't tell the mrs. :clonk::waving: |
