I am looking to change the rear end in my 77" Nova. I am looking for one that will fit fairly easy with little fabrication and has disk breaks. I was told that the rear end out of a firbird / trans am 79-81" would bolt right in and comes with disk brakes. correct? any other possibilities?

Third generation Camaro rear end will be a 8.5" ten bolt with 28 spline axles, and if it is a posi will use an Eaton style clutch disc style posi. Firebird TransAms's shipped with an Auburn cone style posi but it is a two series rear which had a 2.56 or 2.41 gears (not exactly a great choice for performance, and they are not rebuildable). It should fit just fine either way.

That year Camaro rear end is wider overall and center to center on the spring perches. The disc brake set up will install on your Nova rear end with out to much fabrication.

Dave, I think you got the 3rd and 2nd gen Camaros mixed up. The 3rd gen Camaro didn't have the 8.5, it had the 7.5. These had the Auburn limited slip (posi). The 2nd gen Camaro had the 8.5. They didn't use the Eaton posi, they had the Traction Lock, which has the S shaped spring in the center. The Eaton has 4 coil springs.
If you want disc brakes then just use the brakes off of another rear end. You don't have to swap the whole rear end just to use the brakes. The Trans Am WS6 disc brakes will fit the rear end that is in your car, as long as your car has the 8.5. Some of the Novas got the 7.5 starting in '76.

Thanks Freddie, yup I blew that one. Shooting from the lip again without checking facts. Sorry for the misinformation.
