71novaclone Apr 10th, 07, 12:14 AM I just bought a posi carrier off E-Bay and I cant find any info on it none of the 10 bolt 8.2 casting numbers dont match what I have or are they even close the only numbers I can find on it are
726
BX
323
2
none of them run together and on the back side it has
a large 726
what do I have and will it work with my 8.2 10 bolt and my 3.08 gears
thanks guys Jim
strtlegal Apr 10th, 07, 01:37 PM caint you just measure the ring gear? or ring gear mounting holes?
big gear head Apr 10th, 07, 08:39 PM Can you post a picture? How about a link to the ebay auction? It doesn't seem to be a GM differential.
71novaclone Apr 16th, 07, 01:14 AM hey Big Gear Head I'm trying to find my cable for my camera so I can post a pic but another question I measured the ring gear spacer that came with it and its only like 7.5 inches is that right for a 8.2 rear ring gear
big gear head Apr 16th, 07, 10:09 PM The gear will be larger at the outer edge than where it bolts to the differential. What size are the ring gear bolts?
71novaclone Apr 16th, 07, 11:08 PM the ring gear bolt holes are about 7/16
Gloryhound Apr 17th, 07, 04:44 AM Could it be a BOP carrier for like a Firebird that uses a C-clip eliminator?
big gear head Apr 17th, 07, 10:47 PM If the bolt holes are 7/16 then it might be a 8.5 differential or a BOP 8.2.
71novaclone Apr 17th, 07, 11:21 PM anyone know any of the BOP casting numbers if it is a BOP
then can I just get C-clip eliminators and still use it
big gear head Apr 18th, 07, 01:48 AM If it is a BOP then the axle splines will be different.
71novaclone Apr 18th, 07, 10:48 PM it has 28 splines I already counted the BOP unit by my understanding have 25 if thats right is it possible that its an after market posi I guess the only way to find out is pull mine apart and see if it fits the guy I bought it from said it came out of his 68 camaro and it had 3.42s on it so my 3.08 should fit
big gear head Apr 19th, 07, 06:57 PM The BOP also has 28 spline axles, but they are not the same as the Chevy 28 spline axles. You might have an Auburn. If it is then you better be sure that it isn't already worn out. The Auburn doesn't last long and it isn't rebuildable.
71novaclone Apr 19th, 07, 10:44 PM how can tell if its an auburn are there any distinctions
and it is a clutch type not a cone type
71novaclone Apr 19th, 07, 11:08 PM this is exaclty what it looks like http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/68-69-70-7172-Nova-Camaro-Chevelle-10-Bolt-Posi-NOS-GM_W0QQitemZ280104828556QQihZ018QQcategoryZ34208QQ rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
big gear head Apr 19th, 07, 11:42 PM That is a GM Traction Lock. If it was for the 8.5 10 bolt it would have the casting number 410408 or 410409 on one end. If it doesn't have one of those numbers then it is for something else. Those were never made for the 8.2 10 bolt or the BOP and will not work in them. They were used in the 8.5 10 bolt, the O rear end and some other odd ball GM rear ends.
Gloryhound Apr 20th, 07, 01:17 AM That is what I have for my 8.5" ten bolt. Mine needs rebuilt, but the parts are readily available.
