Hi. I'm new here but I am a member over on the Team Chevelle board. I'm hoping maybe someone here may be able to help me out with this one.

I'm looking for a specific '70 SS396 Nova. I had bought it in early '72 from Vito Rinaldi Chevrolet in Shenandoah, PA after it had been repoed from the original owner. It had 7000 miles on it when I bought it.

The VIN # is 114270W129986. It was Forest Green with dark green Deluxe bench seat interior with carpeting and Soft Ray green tinted glass. It had a 4 speed with a 3.55 12-bolt rear but when I sold it, it had 4.56 gears in it.

In a moment of monumental stupidity (very common for me back then), I pulled the engine and trans out of it and sold the roller to Farnsworth Auto Parts in Lebanon, PA in the spring of 1974. I lost track of it at that time and have not heard of it or seen it since.

The hood had been replaced with a non-SS hood that had a Ron Hammerly custom painted green/yellow/white panel stripe with dark green spiderwebbing over the paint. Very unique and distinguishable. Also, it had 15x8 Ansen aluminum slot rims on the back and 15x6 Ansen aluminum slots on the front. It also had ET slapper bars installed.

The car had minor damage behind the left front fender from a wheel coming off. It also had minor damage to the panel between the taillights and the rear bumper had been slightly bowed in.

If anyone knows the whereabouts or the fate of this car, I would appreciate a heads up. I would be very interested in being reunited with this car and would offer a cash reward for its whereabouts. You can e-mail me or PM me over on Team Chevelle.

BTW, I still have the original block and crank from this car but nothing else.

Thanks for your help!

Randy I totaled that car in 82, how much reward are you sending me :D
Just kidding and I wish all the best in finding your car.

I sold my first Chevelle, a 68 SS, L78, M22, 4.10 posi car to pay for the doctor bills incurred by my oldest son's birth and the ensueing complications. I know the original drive train was later sold to another but cannot find either the car or the engine. Maybe someday I will and I might not like what I see when I do.

Philip, at least you sold your Chevelle for a great cause.

I sold mine for no good reason at all.

It probably has suffered the same fate as most....... made into a race car or parted out and crushed....... but I'd still love to find out.

Welcome to the board. A feller is look'n to find his old '69 as well. Same advice I gave him would work for you (assuming it works at all); check with Car Fax and run your VIN just like any other potential buyer.

The odds of finding the original car are slim next to nil. Your best bet would be to find a similar car and build it to match the car you had or better! In the 80's and early 90's a lot of the old Novas were high school kid beaters and drag cars. That took its toll on the number available today. The Nova just didn't get the respect Camaros had in those years. Most kids didn't refer to them as their baby since they were bought and sold in running condition for only a couple hundred bucks if that!
