Press Release
November 12, 2005 Show & Drags, Englishtown, NJ
The Stock Appearing Drags Association and the Long Island Chevelle Club pulled off another outstanding event. Early morning temperatures were below freezing in most parts of the northeast, but the mercury doubled in height by show time. This event was their second go at a new format of drag racing combined with a car show.
Blue skies and mild temperatures prevailed to make this event the perfect closer for the 2005 season. The spring-like weather made for excellent track conditions. Turnout was high with 45 Factory Stockers, 21 F.A.S.T cars and over 25 MCE class cars! Add in the 42 registered show goers and you’ll get over 125 cars participating in total.
Every spectator was in awe at the contingency of American muscle. Its an all muscle car day with something for everyone. Spectator attendance was more than Raceway Park had ever expected for an event of this type.
The car show had a great turnout and a very diverse display of classic American autos. Special appreciation goes out to the Richmond County Pontiac Association, who brought down an entire heard of Goats for the event. There were even two show goers who made this their first show with brand new restorations.
Under the show tent, The Long Island Chevelle Club ran things perfectly. Rob, Art, and the gang had goody bags and give-a-ways. Year One, Don’s East Coast Restorations, Edelbrock, Jegs, Image Sales, and Extrude Hone were the major sponsors. Several Long Island Chevelle Guys also made their marks on the strip. Vice President Art Capelle took his Factory Stock 67 Malibu to a personal best of a tire spinning 16.05. President Rob Mirabile with a cam change in his 67 Chevelle Drop-Top less than 24 hours before the event ran some 14.1x runs and with some more tuning should see 13’s in MCE. Member Drew Amitrano in his 70 LS6 pulled some wheel standing 10.4x runs in MCE, even cutting a .007 light… Now he just needs to get on the green side of that light.
There is talk of next years event being a two day festival of muscle complete with even more extra events and activities. The owners of Raceway Park stated, "we are blown away by the turnout". Hemmings was there and got a lot of great magazine material. George from Hemmings is a down to earth muscle car guy and loved the event. F.A.S.T / Factory Stock Appearing Classes can only get bigger as a result of this. The staging lanes were packed with fans, mobbing the participants as if they were rock stars at times. Several new F.A.S.T. ET records were set as well as many personal bests in The Stock Appearing class.
On the track there were AMC S/C Ramblers, Dodge Daytonas, C.O.P.O Camaro's, ZL1 Vettes, RAIV Pontiacs, several LS6 Chevelles, 455 HO Trans Ams, Hemis by the truckload and several near 100 point show cars! It is apparent the F.A.S.T & Factory Stock Appearing events are here to stay in the northeast.
Cameras were clicking away and everyone should check out this years event photos. They will be posted in the next few days at Long Island Chevelles and Stock Appearing Drags websites.
The management of Raceway Park, The Stock Appearing Drags Association, and The Long Island Chevelle Club extend their thanks and appreciation to all the participants and spectators who made this event such a success.
