hi, i belong to team chevelle but i'm currently selling my 70 chevelle drop top on ebay and i'm getting some good offers, 1 being a 1969 ss nova 396, buckets-console-tach, was wondering if there is anything in vin that verifies its trueness???? any help would be appreciated, mike :D

Sorry to hear your '70 SS Chevelle was bad and you felt you had you sell it. (Have you tried Obedience Training, or choke collars? :noway: )

Once again papers are important for training… I mean verifying your cars authenticity. VIN tags can be faked (and papers forged for that matter), but if you describe what you found with numbers we can tell you were to look for hidden VINs to see if they match, etc. :yes:

By the way welcome to the board, and in case you have not figured it out yet, I’m only pulling your leg (this is were you say down boy! And wrap with a newspaper!) :p

car has buckets its cortez silver black vinyl, tach next to speedo, console that looks like a camaros (1969) just trying to make sure i'm doing the right thing, it is a muncie 4 speed with a 396, thanks for your time, mike

Well to be short no.You can not identify a true ss nova by just the vin# in 1969 but there are some clues in the vin. ex.

69=year 1969......11427=1 chevy,14=nova v8 car,27=2 door sedan
425719 = sequence #,733=black bucket seats,69 B=cortez silver car with a black vinyl roof,05=built in april,C=3rd week. The vin will only narrow it down to be a 2 door, v8, cortez silver black vinyl top car with black bucket seats.You need to look and see if it has original disc brakes big block heater core i think there diff. from a small block and you need documentation to be 100% sure its a SS big block 4 spd car.Also check out this site for some great info on novas www.novaresource.org and goodluck!!
