Hello to all,my question is has anyone else heard that another company bought out the patent and rights to the muncie line? i heard that this was the case and that this company(not sure who they are)was making brand new muncie tranny's including a overdrive 5 speed unit, not sure if there is much truth to this,so i ask if u have heard of this also, the main reason for my wondering,is i just blew up the muncie in my 70 nova via the new motor's healthy lungs,i figured if i was gonna do it,i might as well have overdrive but couldn't find any evidence of this new company/and/or and of there products, any input appreciated. Do a search in the Team Chevelle transmission section using the name Wally and Muncie 5 speed. There has been talk of it coming out soon, but I have not kept up with the progress.

Yes there is a single company that has bought the licensing for the Dana New Process A338 tranny, Ford top loader, Muncie 4 speed, and the patents for the Liberty gear sets as well as Doug Nash s ill famed attempts. I think they are also the current licensees for the Borg Warner Super T-10 and the old T-10 the Muncie was based upon. They are trying to corner the market for all manual boxes (Including the new five and six speed Tremec transmissions). They are

and they used to be happy making killer mechanical fuel injection systems for muscle cars.

Well, here is my dilema, the muncie that im running blew out third gear,i've only had the car on the road for maybe, 4-5 test and tun sessions, all of wich never last more than 2-3 miles, the last time i switched over the distrubutor from a msd "e curve" wich in my opinion is a complete pile of rat fecies,to a msd, 6 AL setup, pulled out of my driveway, ran down the road a mile or so, stopped, did a wide open run, grabbed all four gears, let off, went to down shift to third, and no dice,so the question i have is,is it possible to set this trans up for 550 horse? if not what about a richmond set up? are these tranny's strong enuff? i don't want to run a tremec because i don't want to cut up half the floor out of my car,so im left to decide if the tax return will rebuild,or purchase a new unit,i don't want to rebuild this trans every 10 miles...what do u guys think? thanks any input appreciated. The Muncie is a good trans and plenty strong. Now to get the full strength it needs to be built back to factory specs. Sometimes this will involveboring the counter shaft hole to locate the cluster closer to the main shaft for better engagement of the gears. If you are serious about having your Muncie being made bullit proof have it rebuilt by someone that knows what they are doing. The only 2 people I would recomend are Wally and Tom (DZAUTO) from the Checelle site. There maybe others just as qualified, but these are the only two guys I know that will build it right the first time. If you are not trying to keep an original numbers matching tranny in your car buy one of the Autogears in the supercase with all new parts.
