Hi, I am new to this site. I have a 64 nova 4 dr. 6 cylinder. I bought this nova for only $1,000 but it is becoming a nightmare since the day i bought it. The night i picked it up it broke down on me. It was driving good until i started hearing popping sounds from the carb. the car turned off. I tried to start it but it wouldnt start.

Me and my dad had to tow the car to my dads house. I bought a new fuel pump and changed the spark plugs and my dad took the carb completly apart and we cleaned it with carb cleaner. We put everything back and the car started right up. No problems. I drove the car home and it drove just fine.

The following weekend i change the oil, filter, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, anti-freeze. I started the car and drove it around the block a couple of times and it was fine. On Wednesday i warmed up the car in the morning. It started and after running for a less than a minute the car turned off. I tried starting it but i wouldnt start. I tried the next morning and the same thing happend.

Well today it started but i am still having the same problem. The car doesnt start and when it does it runs for about 15 secs. and them it shuts off. Does anyone have any idea of what can be causing this?

 Sorry for a long story but i just tell it like it is. I am just so frustrated because i want to start cruzing in my nova. So can someone please help me. I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Big Dave

Check for a clogged fuel filter at the carb inlet.

Check the fuel system first . Make sure you are getting fuel to the carb.Plugged lines , filter,or faulty fuel pump. Also check for water in the gas . Next check the ignition system . Make sure you are getting steady voltage to the coil.Good luck .let us know how it's going.

I got it started today. I changed the points and double checked my timing. The timing was way off. It started right up.Thanks for your Reply.
