Need the backspacing on the wheels too please. jays64II Feb 21st, 07, 12:18 AM 4-1/2" backspace and a 235/60 or 225/50 tire on a 7" wide rim if using all factory components. jim454 Feb 25th, 07, 11:15 AM If you upgrade to bigger size tires and rims , make sure you address the brakes also . Stock tires and wheels back then were probably 195-75-14 with 3.75" backspaced 14x6 rims. You don't want to stand on it with both feet if you want to stop in a hurry. Stock tires and wheels back then were probably 195-75-14 with 3.75" backspaced 14x6 rims. You don't want to stand on it with both feet if you want to stop in a hurry. They had some models that shipped with the Corvair's 13" x 4.75" rim four bolt pattern; and the brakes regardless of drum size are designed to stop the car in 45 mph traffic, with a max safe stopping speed of only 60 mph because back in '64 that was all that was legal (before interstates became the rage, and we started paving the country). There aren't to many advatages to being old but remembering the "good ole days" is one of them. Big Dave jim454 Mar 20th, 07, 08:37 AM I think a 15x7 or with 3.75-4.25 backspace would work in the front and 15x8 -15x10 in rear with same backspace would work no problem. You might get away with a little more backspace in the rear, measure it.I would try to keep tire diameter to 25.7" or so. 225-60-15 front max,and 275 50-15 rear max, if you have room.16" and up sizes are a good way to get handling ,but the bigger you go the more expensive they get.I think the 15" are my preference.Unless you plan to do some drifting.Yes I think brakes are good too must be old age setting in.Just trying to help. lifetime62 Mar 21st, 07, 12:52 PM what size would you put on a 73 nova rear and frt cragar rims i would love to have deep dish on the rear jim454 Apr 7th, 07, 01:56 PM If you want to upgrade the brakes someday at least go with 15" 3.75 -4.25 backspace is safe . stick with a 25.7" tire 70's take a 7" rim, 60's usually take a 8" rim .If you want a 50's series in the back make sure they fit by measuring. A 9.5-10" rim should work for those .You might have to increase the backspacing for a 50 to fit. |
