I have had my Nova since 82, before that it was my sisters. It has always been an SS. How do I decode the trim tag to prove it? It has factory front disc, A/C, rear defrost, tilt wheel, 350, 4 speed 12 bolt posi 4:10, bench seat. The trim tag decoders online seem to point to it being just a sedan, it has all the correct markings. Any help would be great. Thanks Mick

In '69 there is nothing on the trim tag to show it's an SS.

As DjD pointed out the numbers can not prove it to be an SS. If you have any of the origional documentation this would prove it or if the car is unmolested the build sheet might be tucked up in the front or rear seat springs or another place is between the gas tank and trunk floor. The build sheet would also prove it. If the engine is still origional and all the other options you mention origional with good build dates I would say you have enough to prove it is a true SS without paperwork to all but the most demanding collector.

OK, Thanks for the replies. I think I found the build sheet, it is a bunch of boxes with the correct body # and alot more. How do I decipher it? Thanks Mick

Yes, but it is ok here for now. If you really want it moved let me know.

For as long as your family has owned the car I doubt it was changed to look like an SS. The cloning started to be a problem later on when big money crept into our hobby. If you can post a photo of the build sheet you found someone will be able to tell you what all the numbers mean.

I found a site that gives me the RPO codes which I think these are but A39, A85, B55 and B80 I didn't see. Anyone? Thanks guys!

Most of the RPO codes were used across the model lines. I copied these from Chevelles.com data base. Does your car have these options installed?
A39 Custom Deluxe front and rear Seat Belts
A85 Deluxe Shoulder Harness
B55 Deluxe Front Seat Cushion
B80 Roof Drip molding

Yes it has those options. The shoulder harness I never figured out, it seems like something is missing on the seat part. Any ideas?

The pin on the shoulder harness slips into a keyhole on the flat metal tab of the lap belt and when inserted into the buckle it is locked in place.
