Big Dave Jan 29th, 07, 08:02 PM Output splines are different, so you will need a new yoke, and to shorten and balance it. Cross-member for a X-body Nova will be for a big block Chevy because they never put a TH400 behind a small block. If you have a SBC then there will be some slotting of the mounting holes because the BBC is off set to clear the steering gear on the drivers side. There are people on the web who will sell you a custom made cross member for a SBC in an F-body (Camaro) which is the same identical part you would need for your X-body (Nova). Because there is a difference in the wheel base of 3/4" between the Nova and the Camaro you might be able to slide by with a Camaro BBC drive shaft as the short tail shaft TH400 is only 3/4" longer than a TH350. Big Dave Gloryhound Jan 29th, 07, 11:20 PM Since the Nova is 3/4" longer than a Camaro and the TH 400 is 3/4 inch longer than a TH 350 you should be able to use a TH 350 tranny out of a Camaro with just a different yoke. It all figures out right in the math! monzaz Jan 30th, 07, 12:28 AM info on the sbc 400th is not fully correct. Corvettes received a 400TH with a small block combo. Just a tid bit . I know your probably taking about Nova only. Just wanted the info to be clear. Jim Big Dave Jan 30th, 07, 05:54 PM info on the sbc 400th is not fully correct. Jim Correct X and F body didn't have a TH400 installed from factory. TH400 was reserved for BBC as it resulted in fewer warranty claims with blown trannies. I have heard rumors of a TH400 behind a '68 Camaro SS 350 but I've never seen one, and most literature denies it's existence. The Th400 has appeared behind SBC 400's in B-body cars and pick-ups and the Y-body Corvette, which left the factory with better tires than any other SBC car. Heavy Impala's and pick-ups could plant the tires well enough to break a TH350 over time (that time being the warranty period) so they also got the heavier and stronger TH400. Big Dave |
