If i stretch the wheel tub and take it to the quarter panel to the stock frame rail, what size tire can i fit?? I would have to cut out the upper section above the wheel lip and trim the lip and cut the wheel tub to the rail..
This is just a thought so i might save the stock quarter,, maybe,,, but i'm still going more with making a radius cut to the quarter, running a stock looking line and stretching the tub.
And this is for my 62..

blake..........have you gotten under the car yet with a tape measure and measured from the outside of the frame rail to the outter most part of the stock wheeltub ? Everyone thinks the tire will rub the lip first but that is incorrect. The tire will make contact with the outter most part of the stock wheel tub. Reach between the tire and the wheelwell and you'll feel that the tub is in further than the wheelwell lip. I think I told you this before but I have seen guys section the inner part of the tub to meet the outter most part of the frame and have put 29.5x10.5 and 30x10.5 slicks on either a 9" or 10" rim with 5" to 5-1/2" backspace depending on the width of the rear. The rear will need to be narrowed from stock width to accomplish this. Remember....if you move the rear back some you will get a lil' more room like I did with mine but then you are going to have to use ladder bars and coilovers to do this....but it will be much more stable than relocating the leaf springs and having to use shorter springs. Just mount the ladderbar crossmember as low as you can, put the ladder bars in the middle hole, level the bottom bar of the ladder bars. Have the axle tube brackets mounted to the ladderbars when you do this. This will show you where the axle will be located.
It's easier to do when you are doing a whole backhalf cause you can take a piece of 3" exhaust tubing and slide your wheels and tires of choice over the ends of the tubing and the slide it all under the car with jackstands supporting the tubing and put the tires in the wheelwells where you want them. You can also do the same with a rear end housing that has the flanges cut off the ends. Weld wheels will slide right over the axle ends and will help you locate the axle yoke to the trans yoke as well.

Thanks for the info Jay,..
I'm going to get on my car in a few weeks, i have a ton of other cars to catch up on before my own. I'll check all the measurments out and decide which way to start cutting. I want to keep the leafs due to , i'm going to biuld another staright axle Nova and i want the old look, i might run ladder bars with the springs so i might be able to use this set up to relocate my spring back a few inches. I like that idea, it will save me from cutting my front section of the quarter panel for the tall tire i'm going to use. When i get into the choping, i'll propbaly be in touch.
Thanks again,, Blake
