Hello to everyone here, I'm coming to you in desperation, as I have a customer that has come to me with a very odd application; 1975 chevrolet nova with 26 spline axle shafts. all of my information leads me to 28 spline axles that are 29.5" from outside of flange to the tip of the shaft at an angle. he's counted 3 times and still comes up with 26 spline, but the correct length. have any of you encountered or heard of a nova with this setup? I've come accross an application in 1977 that had the smaller 7.5" diff and that would have 26 spline axles, but no information on length. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Welcome to the Team Tate!

The 28 spline 10 bolt 7.5 inch (or 7-5/8 inch) rear end was used in 1976 and up Nova six cylinder cares. They used the same ring gear size with a smaller 26 splines axel in later model third generation Camaro cars so some one transfered the wrong rear under the car in an effort to get a posi or gear ratio that they wanted. Check for cut off coil spring brackets and poorly welded leaf spring perches to confirm my theory. The axel application (length) will be for a 1982-92 Camaro.

Tate it sounds like your customer has a 7.5" differential. Even though 75 may have left the factory with an 8.5", 28 spline set up in the last 34 years someone may have changed it.

Have him compare this chart to his application

That axle is not out of a Camaro. Starting in 1970 the Camaro axles were longer than the Nova.
