sgtsteve Oct 22nd, 09, 12:59 AM I just bought a set of their Street Violator mufflers, haven't installed them yet. Hope they sound as good as they look!
sgtsteve Dec 1st, 09, 11:06 AM I gotta say those Pypes Violators sound like poo, loud and obnoxious. I will be changing them out for something else.

Ha,ha....couldn't type what I wanted to without getting censored! Truthfully, when you're driving behind a newer Dodge Ram pickup with 3" exhaust/Magnaflows and you're following in a Chevelle with a mild 350 (355 technically) 2 1/2" exhaust coming off stock manifolds, pypes violators and they can hear your exhaust over their's...somethings wrong. That was the case last night, the guy asked me what I had in the Chevelle and when I told him he was surprised....he actually thought he had a problem with his truck until he spotted the Chevelle behind him. :D
It sounds like I'm running open headers....
higleyml Dec 1st, 09, 01:14 PM Ohhh that poo...like the days of old when glass packs were cool!

If you read about the muffler on pypes site it is rated 9 on a 1 to 10 scale were 10 is the loudest. so it might be a little unfair calling it pooo cause its real loud thats how its advertised.

Well, who comes up with these so called noise scales? That means nothing, its the same thing as people advertising 50hp increase with a cold air intake. If they advertised in decibels then it might mean more....
I'm just not happy with them and neither is anyone who has heard them, they are just speechless from the shock & awe factor. If they advertised these as putting out 150 db's then of course they'd still be sitting on the shelf. Hopefully, they'll send me some replacements, I know they don't have to but if they want to make a customer happy and give recommendations it wouldn't be terrible gesture on their part. I've only had these on the car less than a week and already sick of them.
Philip Dec 2nd, 09, 09:58 AM I have heard Steve's car and straight pipes, even open headers would be an improvement. It isn't just loud it has an awful sound, very irritating. Violator is a perfect name for them, as that is what it does your ears. I suspect there may be a flaw in the manufacturing of these mufflers as I can not imagine anyone designing this sound on purpose.

Well maybe not. After listening to the sounds on Pypes website the Violators were described as "borderline obnoxiuos" by the guys with the 70 Chevelle.

BTW: That Chevelle in the clip was a 72 Chevelle with a 402 Big Block and who knows what is included in the engine build?
Well good news, I got an email from Pypes! Looks like they will trade out my Violators for Street Pros, just need to send them back. I'm just trying to work out details so I don't have any downtime on the car. By the time I send mine back and receive new set it could be 3-4 weeks.
Philip Dec 2nd, 09, 12:08 PM Steve that is good news, even with the down time the swap will be worth it. Now we won't be talking bad about your car when you leave the club meetings :D
For Pypes to step up and do this says a lot about their commitment to customer satisfaction. A big  from me.

Yeah, that won't stop you guys...shoot you talk bad about my car when I'm there  On the other hand, I won't say what we say about El Caminos when you leave.... :D
sgtsteve Dec 3rd, 09, 08:12 PM Thanks to Mike Z. at Pypes Performance Exhaust, I will be swapping my Violator Mufflers for a set of Street Pro Mufflers. I really appreciate him offering to switch these out, or else I'd be looking at installing another brand. Customer service is important these days, but then again so is word of mouth advertising if you want to grow your business. I'll wait until I get the new mufflers installed, but I'm 100% sure they will be better than the Violators.
