SHIFTY4 Sep 18th, 09, 02:25 PM bet you're happy, huh ? ;)
i'm happy that you're happy
here's something to think about now as you're installing everything, ok ?
the front sheetmetal is hung off that sub frame one way or another... correct ?
so as you get everything installed and you check your fender gaps etc don't get upset if they don't line up like they did before... just take your time. the shims that are supplied for the upper tubes are there for a reason. make sure you get all the bottom bolts in and that they're tight. the whole front end can be installed a little this way or a little that way so again TAKE YOUR TIME and in the end the fit & finish will be retained etc and everything will be just great.
i recommend mocking everything up prior to paint. you'll need to weld on brackets for the brake hoses (or they can be bolted on i guess) if the car is a manual transmission then the bracket for the linkage needs to be welded on also... get all the mock ups done prior to paint is what i wish to convey ;)
i think in the end you'll be VERY satisfied with the quality of the parts and the new "Feel" of how your car handles.
a NIGHT & DAY difference ;)
congrats to ya,
JR
The Big Al Sep 18th, 09, 03:28 PM Holly molly!!!!!!!!!
draginutz Sep 19th, 09, 10:14 AM F.Y.I. I sold my stock clip already and made back some money!
David_H Sep 19th, 09, 12:08 PM Now would be the time to add the sway bar.
draginutz Sep 20th, 09, 12:52 AM That is tomorrows project allong with steering. We were moving right along and then the guy came to pick up the old front clip. My dad and I were helping him load it and my dad smashed him pinky pretty bad. So 10 stiches and 2 hours later just cleaned up the garage and called it a night. Got the sub frame in and the engine a trans back in. Suspension and steering tomorrow.
draginutz Sep 20th, 09, 12:53 AM I will post pics tomorrow too
David_H Sep 20th, 09, 12:08 PM I will post pics tomorrow too
waiting.
draginutz Sep 20th, 09, 05:49 PM No progress today. Went and did a chairty walk for suicide prevention. So tomorrow night it should be tackled. Sorry
draginutz Sep 21st, 09, 07:28 PM PICS!!!

Old clip gone and new one on
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss78/Draginutz/63%20Nova/DSCN0590.jpg?t=1253575150
Sub frame bolted in pretty smoothly...Had to open up the holes on the car a touch.

Down tube lower bolts. I didn't do them both coming from the bottom like the "directions" said. Felt more comfortable with one going down JUST IN CASE.
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss78/Draginutz/63%20Nova/DSCN0592.jpg?t=1253575268
The down tubes bolted in with no problem what so ever. Almost too easy.

Engine in its new home.

Started doing suspension...
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss78/Draginutz/63%20Nova/DSCN0596.jpg?t=1253575471
And then the guy came to pick up the old clip and this happened (to my dad who was nice enough to help me) while loading. So 10 stitches later and not much has changed since, I feel bad but happy at the same time if that makes sense. If anyone wants a pic of something specific let me know I am planning on going to finish the suspension install tomorrow (Tuesday) night.:D

draginutz Sep 22nd, 09, 10:53 PM Big thanks to Shifty and TIM(ibuildm) for all the help and info.
draginutz Sep 24th, 09, 08:50 AM Suspension is in but forgot the camera so I will snap some pics when I get back over there. And my pops finger is looking goof maybe I will get a shot of that too!!! LOL
draginutz Sep 24th, 09, 11:49 PM Anyone know what lug nuts to use on my new clip? I am guessing 1/2-20 threads? Also I am running the 2" drop spindles, and my springs seem really stiff. Should I be running a 2" drop spring also or would that put my at -4"? I just don't see these springs settling that much.
And lastly does anyone knowhow or have pics of how the coulmn bracket (when using the stock cloumn with Heidts shaft kit) mounts to the fire wall? Thanks
draginutz Sep 25th, 09, 12:02 AM Pics nothing exciting

SHIFTY4 Sep 25th, 09, 01:16 AM Anyone know what lug nuts to use on my new clip? I am guessing 1/2-20 threads? Also I am running the 2" drop spindles, and my springs seem really stiff. Should I be running a 2" drop spring also or would that put my at -4"? I just don't see these springs settling that much.
And lastly does anyone know how or have pics of how the column bracket (when using the stock column with Heidts shaft kit) mounts to the fire wall? Thanks
they're 7/16 studs Pete. not 1/2 ;)
don't worry about the front springs, they'll settle after driving it. sitting in the shop won't help them settle the car needs to be going through its motions on the road to get them to settle in... also i doubt you'll need to worry yourself with a drop spring. the 2" drop spindles will be more than enough (you'll see ;) ) the main cross member will be the low point on the car and if you go too low... well... just wait until the car is all back together you'll see what i mean ;)
i recently bought std spindles for my car. going to pull the drop spindles to get the front end UP a little.
here's a bracket get to hold the lower portion of the column steady, i have one, works great. from ChassisWorks part number 6330 (scroll to see product)

draginutz Sep 25th, 09, 09:22 AM Thank shifty. i have the mount just wasn't sure if it goes above or below the column on the firewall. All I know is my old lug nuts won't work?
SHIFTY4 Sep 25th, 09, 10:55 AM were the old drums lefty's and righty's ?
if the rotors are the standard supplied units then they should be equipped with 7/16 studs. you can verify the size by sliding an open end wrench over the stud ;)
draginutz Sep 25th, 09, 02:16 PM I had discs on it. I wil check it out tonite. but pretty sure 7/16 is too small.
draginutz Sep 29th, 09, 02:39 PM So the wheel studs are 1/2-20..I don't know why but that what I fit on there so the car is on the ground now. Have to get the steering shaft hooked up and fit sheet metal. Thanks again to all who helped I am still happy.
draginutz Oct 1st, 09, 02:32 PM I am unsure what the purpose of this bracket is. Its on the inner frame rail above the rackand below the down tube...Anyone know? There is one on the pass. side also.
SHIFTY4 Oct 1st, 09, 02:36 PM possible mount for the sway bar ?
not ta sound funny but what do the directions say ?
draginutz Oct 2nd, 09, 09:10 AM Glad you asked the "directions" don't mention them or even have them in the photos. And lets be honest the directions are more of a rough guide then specific instructions. I mean I have figured out most of the stuff but there area few things that they could go into detail about. Just saying. I will go out and check it out again this weekend and let you know what I figure out.
SHIFTY4 Oct 2nd, 09, 11:36 AM you can call Tim "Ibuildm" or shoot him a PM/EMail i'm sure he'd be happy to help answer any questions.
sorry i wasn't of any help. i don't have a TCI clip, mine's a Heidt's, they have really good directions etc.
draginutz Oct 2nd, 09, 02:41 PM i will give tim a call if I can't figure it out this weekend. Part of the reason I am taking so many pics is because TCIs instructions are alittle lacking. Don't get me wrong everything has bolted together and gone smoothly. But a little more detail in the directions would be nice. Thanks shifty
woodnmetal Jan 13th, 10, 09:11 AM I know how you must feel.. getting the stuff in the mail and opening up the boxes. Everything looks really sweet. My basement looks like a warehouse. Boxes everywere.
I have been torn between putting a new clip on my 67. I hate to do it. I like original.
Maybe down the road.. Especialy after seeing yours. I am not a huge fan of the button heads on the lower frame connection. Who in their rite mind would use a grade 8 bolt with an internal hex ? maybe it's just me. The project is absolutley awsome... Pete. good for you!!! :hurray:
ibuildm Jan 13th, 10, 09:58 PM If you haven't figured it out yet the lug nuts are metric. 12mmx1.25 Absolutely do not use 1/2" lugs. Your wheels will fall off.
Tim
draginutz Jan 30th, 10, 12:53 PM Thanks Tim. I had not figured it out yet. I have been too busy and its been too cold to even look at my car. I can't wait to post up pics of the new front end intsalled and the new wheels/tire I am getting. Heres a sneak peek. Big thanks to Tim(ibuilm) front clip and Jon (DriverzInc) wheels.
