View Full Version : Well its alive
strtlegal Sep 9th, 09, 02:17 AM After buying all new parts and learing everything on my own about how to make an LS motor work, it fired right up...Cheesy little clip, open headers, still need to mount my tie rods and still waiting on my new wheels, then its time to hit the road..
after a bunch of snags and learning curves it was done in about 10 months

stroud6 Sep 9th, 09, 03:27 AM Maybe its just me but that sounds a lot like a little big block. Not at all like the old small block 350/383's. Has a deep rumble to it. Wonder how it will sound with exhaust on. Great look car. mark
Big Dave Sep 9th, 09, 07:03 AM Must be the 5-7 swap that does it :D.
I think it has allot more to do with the higher compression than the old small block and better flowing heads. If you want a nasty sounding motor increase the compression ratio not increasing the duration figure will get you noticed. When the exhaust valve opens the exhaust gasses are still very much pressurized which makes your headers ring like a bell (the gasses are also hotter so if you were running a turbo and could limit the boost it would make more power; but then who limits boost?)

draginutz Sep 9th, 09, 02:34 PM Sounds good...Pretty nice looking too!!!

I went with an LS2, running a Lunati cam in it,,Id does sounds pretty darn good for a more modern motor...This thing has been great to work on, I really thought I was going to pull my hair out..Now granted I did a few times but all in all very easy swap...Not really cheap, but hopefully when I drive to Los Angeles I wont think abut the cost anymore..lol
Philip Sep 10th, 09, 12:53 AM looking good Chuck, hard to believe it has been 10 months.

Good choice!!! You won't be sorry! The fact that you'll be driving up to L.A. and the fuel savings alone will be worth the swap along with the added ponies and no more carb adjusting! LOL!! The torque curve on that motor is great especially for a street motor.
Which LS2 block did you go with? If you have the bigger bore 402 you can bolt on a set of LS7 heads flowing 330 cfm and make some serious ponies. From what I've read a set of LS7 heads can be had for around $750 assembled! I also read that you can get the matching intake with 36 lb injectors, fuel rails and a 90mm TB for $475!:hurray:
Good choice on the cam too!!! Lunati makes some great stuff!!
John
strtlegal Sep 11th, 09, 12:54 AM Lol..not sure about the block, guess I should read up. It is a 24 tooth reluctor, it could be...I think I saw 402 on the back side..
That actually sounds like a neat upgrade, but I would have to buy a new intake aswell, I might go to a gull ported AFR or LS6 head..but thats next year..lol

No need for an intake. It comes with everything.
LS6 heads aren't as efficient, even ported, as the LS7 heads because of the base port design. I really think a set of LS7 heads would work GREAT!!!:beers:

dan@swift Dec 21st, 09, 05:48 PM Wow, now that's a certain head-turner. You'll love the LS2, all the work in research will be well worth it. There's an excellent mixture of fuel mileage and performance wrapped up in there, and they love tweaking and performance modifications! Now stop talking about this beauty and get rolling!
Dan
strtlegal Dec 24th, 09, 01:55 PM Its been rolling lol...Had a guy mess with some tunning and this car pulls real hard...Its been a heck of alot more fun then my old SBC...
